I need a way to buy a domain for someone , who has zero experience on the net and doesn't own a mastercard , but i don't want to sign up for those expensive reselling plans. He's willing to pay more than the registration fee of a domain name (up to $15). I basically want to get him a godaddy account with the domain he wants , so i thought of this way :

1- Buy the domain through my godaddy account.
2- Create a new godaddy account with his information.
3- Push the domain to his account and let him change his account's password.

Do you think its a good idea? and will the domain WHOIS info change to his' or not?

appreciate your help :)

Everything's fine but beware of the 60 day wait period before you can go moving the domain around ;) And yes, the whois info will change to him when he changes it and it is in his account (Or on the push, if you know his info, you can set it then).

You can push to another GoDaddy account within 60 days, its only transfering it to another registrar that they restrict you.

True, true. I do keep forgetting this due to some recent problems with a WWD reseller and the inability to push from WWD to GD. So no more of a drawback, other than the 60 day restriction does reset on push (Found that out the hardway also ;) ).
Thanks for keeping me in line rbd ;)

Ya, that should work. The only thing is, can you make an account without any payment info? Or another option which might be a little harder, but would still work, is to create a PayPal account with his details, then donate the cost of registering the domain to his account, and then allow him to buy it at a register who accepts PayPal.

Melikes Tom's idea even better than mine... Keeps things a little more simple as to who owns what and when.
You can make an account without payment info at WWD resellers so I assume you can at the 'daddy. Even still, I like the (limited $ in the paypal account at all times, of course) new idea deTom even better.
Nice.

It would be even more simple to set him up a GoDaddy account, buy the domain through that account and then give him the username and password, save doing the transfer...

But then all your CC details are in his account.

I can't (neither he can) use PayPal. We're both from Saudi Arabia and PayPal isn't listing my country , which makes MasterCard the only payment method available.

I think i'll just follow the way i suggested then. Thanks guys :)

Simple, have your CC company generate a one time use number for you.
