EDIT: A dummy's guide to registering .TRAVEL domain names:
1. Create a Travel website, it doesn't have to be professional looking, as long as its a "travel information website". The authentication process is very, very liberal. It seems like they want money asap.
2. Get authenticated at:
http://www.authentication.travel/register.jsp?type=U&ap=trap
Make sure you enter the URL of your travel site, or you will not be authenticated. I put down the category of "travel media".
3. Wait for authentication (takes 1-3 business days, you will receive an email with your UIN (number needed to register .travel names) if you are approved. If not, start over at step one and make your site more informative.
4. Go to Encirca or any other .Travel registrar:
http://www.encirca.com/cgi-bin/rgsys/bulkregtravel.cgi
Make sure you enter your UIN. The encirca system works out nice.
5. Log in, change your nameservers, and start developing them babys!
Notes:
Once you are approved, you can register ANY .travel domain you want, with no limits on the number of .travel domains you can own.
The site that you use to get authenticated in does not have to be the final site for the .travel domain. In essence, it could act as a shell site for your "travel company".
Reg Fee is Hefty ($100/year), but IMHO travel niche sites will do well with this extension.
MANY great names available, such as Jamaican.travel, dutch.travel, etc.
Names I got through Land Rush:
Algiers
Kiev
Norfolk
Raleigh
Plano
Belgrade
PanamaCity (best one imo, spring break)
Dhaka
sarejevo
Sofia
beirut
Helsinki
Tripoli
British
English
