Hi,

I would like to transfer a few of my domain names from ipower to godaddy and since I've never done this before, I have a couple of questions:

1) Do i have to wait for the domain name to expire with my old registrant before making a transfer?
2) If I make a transfer 6 months before it expires with ipower, what happens to the other 6 months after I've transferred it to Godaddy?
3) do i have to do something on the site of my old regisrar to accept/allow for the transfer?
4) Is there any advice or anything I should know when transferring a domain from one registrar to another?

All comments appreciated. Cheers!

1) No, do not wait for your domain to expire to transfer it.
2) After you transfer your domain, it will add 1 extra year to your domain. Example, your domain expires in January 2007 and you transfer it now(Nov 2006), you will not have to renew it to January 2008.
3) It depends on the register, some you have to unlock or have a code. Start the transfer at Godaddy and you will know what you need to do.
I would suggest not using a $1.99 domain for every nondomain purchase. Just use a 10% off coupon or a transfer coupon. If your transfer falls, you will get your money back but if you do the $1.99 domain then you will only get $1.99 back and still have to pay for your nondomain purchase.
Good luck and let us know if you need any help with it!

make sure you stayed at ipower for 60 days before you could transfer.

Thanks for that!

Hey guys,

That was most helpful. I will go ahead with the transfer next week and keep you updated. Doesn't sound too complicated to me. Thanks again.
