Hello
I am in the process of my first domain sale, self represented with the help of a trademark lawyer, dealing with another trademark lawyer.

They have proposed an agreement where I send them the domain and then they will wire transfer/ACH to my account.

Just curious if this is normal practice or should funds come first then domain?

The standard practice is escrow. You can have a formal accredited escrow like Escrow.com or you can use a de facto escrow service like Afternic (GoDaddy) or DomainEasy or Spaceship or Sedo or... so on and so forth. If lawyers are involved, they will most likely prefer Escrow.com given it is accredited and will handle a sale agreement.

Fastest = go to DomainEasy.com (or Afternic or Spaceship or Sedo...) -> register an account -> add your domain -> send the link to your buyer.

Most likely to make a lawyer happy = go to Escrow.com and set up a transaction, choosing the concierge option so that they hold the domain name during the sale process.

Sending money directly is very uncommon. That said, involving lawyers is...
For me, there are never any lawyers involved. Usually the buyer just clicks the Buy Now-button, and the domain changes ownership through Fast Transfer.

Sending money directly is very uncommon. That said, involving lawyers is also very uncommon so if you can get a sale agreement that your lawyer is happy with, it wouldn't be bad to send the domain first.

You can use EscrowDomains.com if they want lawyers involved, since that's a tried-and-true escrow company and legal firm behind it.

self represented with the help of a trademark lawyer, dealing with another trademark lawyer.
Be cautious of law firms involved that you cannot verify as legitimate from third-party sources.
