On Friday night during a rock concert, a fire started in Colectiv club in Bucharest killing 32 people and having almost 150 in severe condition through hospitals, most of them having a 50/50 chance of survival. All are young, 15-40 years old.
The fire started from fireworks which were too close to the soundproofing system (no fireproof). There were no functional fire extinguishers and only one normal exit for nearly 300 people; in a matter of 30 second the whole ceiling was on fire and the people who were still trapped inside either burned or died from the smoke (lethal combo). Some of the people who were closer to the door died after they got back in and carried people out.
Not only the Romanians mobilized after this tragedy but the whole world did as I seen the 'Station' case years ago, all very, very similar. Thousands donated blood, skin, money and expert plastic surgeons from Europe came to help. Over 10 thousand people marched to support the victims and protest against corruption and lack of safety in public places, you can read more about it in the news.
For anyone who wants to help not only the families of the deceased but also the victims who still struggle for their lives with up to 80% body injuries from fire (burns are expensive to treat), including internal injuries of the respiratory system, here is the simplest way to donate (I can't find an official paypal link yet but will keep this updated).
