Traffic Down Under ...

I just searched for threads on the Traffic Down Under conference coming up later this month. Found nothing with any substantive discussion. Why is that? I thought there would be some buzz about it here.

It appears there are two different auctions. The "Premier Auction by Aftermarket.com" (Thursday 8:30am) and the "Auction by RickLatona.com" (Thursday 12:30pm). I was thinking of submitting my best generic dot com but not sure which would be the best venue. It appears both are still accepting submissions. Anybody know anything about the differences between the two auctions?

I'm not happy with this list, not so much that I have none in it but because I only see a few truly high-quality domains in here. Is this a joke?
I think that is what happens when owners with quality domains refuse to go in with no reserves.

It also just seems to me that Rick Latona has a better grasp of what quality is. The domains he sells seem much more in tune with what domainers are looking for.

It's also what happens when domainers refuse to leave the US for a conference.

I imagine that is truer than ever right now.

But you don't have to attend the conference to submit a domain or to bid do you?

There may well be a mopping up operation pending with a few of the no/low reserve names, those in the know and associates have a bargain basement buying opportunity - be interesting to see who the buyers are post conference.

I lost interest after submitting a large number of names with reasonable reserves and hearing zip :td:

Rick Latona has released his auction line up to be found below. A few notables are: Belgium.com, Brussels.net, MO.com, Pete.com, Rome.net, Venice.com, Macro.net and many more! He also has some really great domains at no reserve like: TomatoJuice.com, GranolaBar.com, Patients.net, and Lousy.com!

No . . . both auctions are online and bidding and submitting all is online. It's been that way for most of the auctions for a long time.

Seabass. I don't know what your domain is but please let me know via PM if you want . I was involved in the process of picking domains. It's quite possible we miss one here and there. Aftermarket's number 1 goal is to sell all the domains at auction and therefore the choosing of domains involves picking the names that a group of us believe have the highest probability of sale.

This list was revised 10 times . We had around 30,000 submissions and made it a point to pick 50 of the names priced at NR. That was an early decision in this process. We've received criticism and compliments and you'll have that. I think we'll do well at this auction and as many have pointed out before there are some EXCELLENT deals to be found at this show. This is a buyers market and there's 100 great deals out there.

Btw for posterity sake these are the comparative results from the last auction in NYC.

Aftermarket.com Auction
Total Lots 51
Sales 27 53%
At Reserve sales 6 22%
Above Reserve sales 20 74%

Rick Latona Auction
Total Lots 79
Sales 38 48%
Below Reserve sales 7 18%
Within Res Range sales 13 34%
Above Reserve sales 18 47%

Moniker Live Auction
Total Lots 228
Sales 101 44%
Below Reserve sales 1 1%
Within Res Range sales 63 62%
Above Reserve sales 37 37%

Thanks for the info, strong.

Out of curiosity, what is a "below reserve sale"? Isn't that an oxymoron?

That is true, however, I can bet that the majoirty of those people selling/buying $xxx, xxx names would be there. If you are buying at an auction you often want to see the sort of competition you're up against.

If you want a name, you want it. Going to the auction is far from necessary. I know a lot of bidders who bid online and there's always a handful of bids coming in on the phone even.
In the case of the aftermarket.com auction there's none listed in the 6figures anyway. Hopefully a couple go that high though.

Yes Rick Latona and Moniker pulled down reserves to get names sold. . . It kind of defeats the purpose of a reserve eh ? Sometimes if there's no action at the reserve but there's a bid/buyer in the audience and the seller is there they'll pull down the reserve to get the name sold. I don't know that Aftermarket has done this.
