Hi all,

I noticed that Facebook have all the domains like: faceboop, Faceboow etc etc.
But I own Faceboos.com, is it a trademark issue?

If yes, why?

If not, you think facebook will buy it from me? :P
Or what could it be worth if I sell it? (I know that online tools are not worth anything, but they aim at low/mid x.xxx)

Dont bother with names like this, its showing bad intent...and posting it on a public forum like this doesn't help you either

Just stay away from names are that similar to large companies

I understand your point, and its not my intention to make a bad reputation with a domain like this. I registered this domain in the beginning, before I knew anything about eventual issues that could bring with a name like this. But in this case I wondered because I am not using the Facebook name, I thought this was different.

In my opinion, if you handle the case appropriately, you can avoid any issues with FB. Certainly don't put ads on it and most certainly don't offer it for sale to FB!

But since you already started by mentioning the name in this thread along with multiple references to FB, I'm not sure you are able handle the name without risk (the name will be crawled by G along with the FB references shown next to it).... so, as gilescoley said, maybe it's best to consider dropping it.

Yes you want to make sure you avoid any trademark issues and do not put anything relating to Facebook on your site as this will raise flags right away. I am curious though when did you purchase this name? Was it a while back or recently.

I registered it a few months back, when it was dropped the previous day. I think originally it was registered somewhere in 2006/2007 or so. At that time (a few months back) I put every domain that i thought it is worth something through Estibot, I saw the high value and registered it. I have some other domains from that period with similar issues, like: AudiOccasions.com, WindowsLogo.com and Faceboos.com. Not knowing the potential risk :(

Estibot seriously ?
This name is a liability. The most likely outcome is that facebook will file a udrp and win easily, since you will have a hard time justifying bona fide usage. Since you can't, you'll lose by default. Maybe they won't do anything, but they normally have an IP/legal department that is already monitoring your domain along hundreds or thousands or others. Because you are not the only one doing this.
Nobody will buy this domain, because it's nothing special regardless of the obvious TM issues. So it is worthless.

Suggestions:
  • delete all your infringing domains, contact your registrar for an early delete before normal expiry time
  • do not trust automated appraisal tools... ever
  • buy names that make sense, that don't pose TM issues, and that you would use for a serious business

Faceboos seems like a pointless name anyway tbh. Unless you have an app that you can look at faces and click the "boo" button?
