I put my domain name up for a quick appriasal on the Appraisals Forum.
The domain name is:
PokerPlan.net
I received 1 appraisal (for which I'm grateful) putting it at low $xxx.
So far so good.
The Appraiser said that (in their opinion) the words Poker and Plan don't go together. I disagree. But that is their opinion, so no prob's there.
So far so good.
THEN.....
Tonight I take a look over after AfterNIC, in their for sale section and I see junk (in my opinion) like:
PokerEx.com 100,000
Pokere.com 460,000
Pokerock.com 1,000
PokerTriumph.com 9,800
PokerCome.com 10,000 (WTF!!!)
Pokersalley.com 12,000 (It's NOT even "PokerAlley"- it's "Pokersalley" WTF!!)
This goes on for page after page.
People have taken the word POKER and literally added ANYTHING behind it.
I chose something that (to me) made sense. I have a Plan to get good at Poker- hence a "Poker Plan". Maybe that was my mistake- it's TOO logical??!!
Please believe me when I say I'm not bitter. I'm typing this very calmly. I am just intrigued to know how people arrive at values for domain names?
I didn;t buy the domain "pokerplan.net" to make any money. I bought it because I have a Poker Plan and wanted to create a web site for it. You'll see by visiting my site that I'm serious about this.
But I just cannot understand how my domain is valued at a few hundred $, when I've just read about 8 pages of dross names, asking for 10X, 20X, etc.
The only name I cam across that I (IMHO) thought warented the price tag, was "PokerPrograms.com" (12,000). I can see how Poker Programs are VERY BIG business- so the price tag seems appropriate.
But is "PokerProgressive.com" really worth the asking price of $500,000?????
Come on Guys, justify this to me!!!!!
Many thanks,
Ian
