I put my domain name up for a quick appriasal on the Appraisals Forum.

The domain name is:

PokerPlan.net

I received 1 appraisal (for which I'm grateful) putting it at low $xxx.
So far so good.

The Appraiser said that (in their opinion) the words Poker and Plan don't go together. I disagree. But that is their opinion, so no prob's there.

So far so good.

THEN.....

Tonight I take a look over after AfterNIC, in their for sale section and I see junk (in my opinion) like:

PokerEx.com 100,000
Pokere.com 460,000
Pokerock.com 1,000
PokerTriumph.com 9,800
PokerCome.com 10,000 (WTF!!!)
Pokersalley.com 12,000 (It's NOT even "PokerAlley"- it's "Pokersalley" WTF!!)

This goes on for page after page.
People have taken the word POKER and literally added ANYTHING behind it.

I chose something that (to me) made sense. I have a Plan to get good at Poker- hence a "Poker Plan". Maybe that was my mistake- it's TOO logical??!!

Please believe me when I say I'm not bitter. I'm typing this very calmly. I am just intrigued to know how people arrive at values for domain names?

I didn;t buy the domain "pokerplan.net" to make any money. I bought it because I have a Poker Plan and wanted to create a web site for it. You'll see by visiting my site that I'm serious about this.

But I just cannot understand how my domain is valued at a few hundred $, when I've just read about 8 pages of dross names, asking for 10X, 20X, etc.

The only name I cam across that I (IMHO) thought warented the price tag, was "PokerPrograms.com" (12,000). I can see how Poker Programs are VERY BIG business- so the price tag seems appropriate.

But is "PokerProgressive.com" really worth the asking price of $500,000?????

Come on Guys, justify this to me!!!!!

Many thanks,
Ian

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

just unrealistic sellers :imho:

Those are prices that people want to sell their domains for.
Lets be serious, those people need to slap themselves and realize that no one is going to buy those domains for that price.

The domain is only great in the eye of the holder.

Thanks Guys- that's what I thought.
Do these people live on a different planet?

As I said, I have no intention of selling the name, but I was just phased when I saw those asking prices.

Cheers,
Ian

The name of the domain can be irrelevant if it is getting high traffic.
The majority of domains on Sedo and Afternic are badly overpriced but you can take any name and turn it into a goldmine.

IE: Google Yahoo

No. They live on planet Earth and they are humans. Only humans could be so dumb, IMO.

not want to argue with you, but the poker plan does not make much sense for "I have a Plan to get good at Poker". I think it makes some sense for "design plan" or "poker table plan" etc though.

Ask 100 different people - get 100 different opinions. That's the way it goes.

Toss out the highs and lows, and focus on the middle/average appraisals.

Good luck. :)

...there's also the factor that your name is a .net which does not work so well with a poker site as traffic would be lost to the .com

poker plan isn't really that logical. Who's going to type in poker plan? Plus the .net extension hinders this as well. People want to play poker online or find secrets/hints. They don't have a plan. This isn't A-team.

That's my take anyway. I'd sell it for 20 dollars and plan on getting a better poker name if that's what you're after.

Not to be mean.. but those are my feelings on the subject at hand.

i can put a domain qelkwejrklsjlksjlksjoielsl.com for 10000000000000000000000000 $

doesn't mean somebody is going to pay me that ... these people just buy domain and list it ... but i dont think they'll make that big profit :)

Are you willing to sell?!

I needed a good type in domain and I believe this one suits my needs/wants/desires.

I've been in the red this fiscal quarter, but hope to get back in the black by trimming the fat and liquidating assets/being bearish in the stock market with pig bellies.

I think this name would be perfect for qelking

IDN -

I made a similar post at AfterNic's forum and people got pretty bent out of shape. I agree that you should never trust an appraisal. I like PokerPlan, but the .com would have been much more valuable. Those people on AfterNic would be extremely lucky to sell those names for anywhere near asking price, or even on the Bazaar for that matter.

Have a great day.
