Top keyword + unknown TLD... worth?

I just found that one of the second level domains in my country is so unpopular that most of the top keywords are still available. Some of the factors to consider are:

* The domain registration is around $25 a year.
* I cannot transfer the domain to anyone who is not a citizen of that country. So, there are not many chances to make money by reselling them.

My question is:

* Will I be able to make more than $25 per year by parking or having a adsense-minipage at "poker.xx.xx" or "casino.xx.xx" with absolutely unknown second level domain "xx.xx"?

What do you think?

Unlikely, IMHO.

I guess you could lease the name to a foreign corp, but then you would be responsible if they messed things up (sending spam, blacklisted, etc).

There certainly are a lot of people asking about obscure TLDs recently. Is it a emerging trend or a minor backlash at the difficulty of getting anything worthwhile in .com???

I think it is worth that $25 experiment, you lose only that $25, and chances are you will make it up I bet. Let us know the results.

I agree with Cache.

If you have really great keywords, your experiment is worth a try.

Just try to avoid going too much beyond the $25, initially. Then you can increase the number of registrations in case you see really good results.

Just let us know.

Pass on it. This will be an experiment in how to waste money. Normally I am all for it, but do yourself a favor. There are poor TLD's with great keywords still available - forget poor 2nd level ccTLD's - if no ones buying them, no ones putting up sites on them, thus no one is looking for them!

Just my thoughts,

Justin
