I suppose this fits better under foo, but I'm doing a research paper on top domain names and thought maybe some experts could help. If you could have any .com domain names which words would you want? Here's the initial list I'm starting from, what am I missing?

**non trademark (or weaker TM issues due to being dictionary words)**
ask.com
aim.com
amazon.com
apple.com
about.com
dictionary.com
download.com
excite.com
hotels.com
lyrics.com
match.com
monster.com
sex.com
weather.com

Trademarked Domains
msn.com
nbc.com
nfl.com
cnn.com
google.com
yahoo.com

Cheers,
Chris

I'd say

1. sex.com
2. download.com
3. weather.com

are the most valuable since these are the topics people will always serch for. sex.com is something I personally wouldn't care to develop, but it is most certainly one of the most valuable domain names.

amazon, apple, etc wouln't be that valuable if they weren't already developed. google.com is worth nothing if we appraise name alone. As such, amazon.com is nothing special, considering what amazon.com has become, it's almost impossible to evaluate this kind of name - who would be able to tell, how much is worth microsoft.com , I mean the domain name itself? quite useless to appraise in away, it will never be available (or perhaps together with the company behind it). Actually, if you want to own a piece of the domain name microsoft.com, ask your broker to buy you some shares of Microsoft

PS casino.com and poker.com would be nice to have, too

Thanks for the reply :) Indeed poker & casino are both nice terms but overture on them is quite small relatively. (i.e. overture w/ of < 20k). What are the big keywords that are 100k +

Cheers,
Chris

Just the domain?

xxx.com , porn.com , iloveyou.com , USA.com etc
All these would worth big :$

I hadn't thought of xxx.com. Porn is a good one also but none of these were overture w/ of greater than 100k. I'm curious, what are the best type-in domains for .com?

I'd say the obvious winner is google.com for trademarked domains, what about generic keyword traffic though?

ask.com is a good one w/ almost 500k overture w/. Help me out, if you could have any .com domains (based upon type-in traffic alone) what would they be?

Cheers,
Chris

Internet.com, About.com, buy.com, download.com all will have a lot of type-in traffics I'm quite sure

I will choose sex.com, weather.com, and ask.com

The weird thing is sex.com and ask.com are both search engines. :)

about.com, ask.com, sex.com etc are all definite winners. internet.com has suprisingly little overture w/.

Would people be interested if I was willing to donate $20 NP$ for any new 100k overture w/ + finds?

Cheers,
Chris

I think that Chris_C is trying to find the most valuable domain names NOW. (please correct if wrong!).

Also Lind: you just know that if microsoft didn't exist today, and you owned the domain - you would sell it for $10 and some smartass would go and turn it into a $multi-billion enterprise!
