The domain market is entering a new phase in 2026, driven by AI adoption, startup demand, and global digital expansion.
Here are five trends every domainer should watch:
  1. AI-related domains continue rising in value, especially short and clear brandable.
  2. One-word .com remains king, with increasing competition even for average keywords.
  3. ccTLDs like .io, .co, and .ai outperform others thanks to startups choosing simple, global-friendly extensions.
  4. Short, pronounceable brandables are gaining momentum due to demand from SaaS and tech companies.
  5. Expired domains auctions are becoming more competitive, requiring faster decision-making and stronger research.

What do you think Which trend do you consider the strongest for 2026.

I personally wouldn't classify any of those as a trend....

Hi

yeah, and there is no new phase coming in 2026 either

where do the folks who just walked in the door get this stuff?

imoโ€ฆ.

Haha, fair point โ€” maybe trendโ€ wasnโ€™t the right word.
Letโ€™s call them those things everyone keeps buying while pretending theyโ€™re not trends.๐Ÿ˜„
And donโ€™t worry, Iโ€™m definitely not afraid of the machinesโ€ฆ
Iโ€™m more afraid of domainers in expired auctions bidding like theyโ€™re defending their family honor.
Still, whether itโ€™s AI, enhanced humans, or just another hype cycle โ€” the market keeps shifting, and we either adapt or get left holding the portfolios no one wants.
Curious though:
If none of these qualify as trendsโ€ฆ what would you say is actually changing the domain market right now

Thanks for sharing your perspective โ€” thatโ€™s an interesting way to look at it.

Ai is making people dumb and lazy.......
Haha, I get what you mean โ€” AI can make some people lazyโ€ฆ
but letโ€™s be honest, a lot of domainers were already lazy long before AI showed up.
Personally, I think AI doesnโ€™t make people dumb โ€” it just makes the difference more visible between those who use tools smartly and those who expect the tools to do all the thinking for them.
At the end of the day, AI doesnโ€™t replace effort or good judgment.
It just accelerates whatever mindset you already had.
But now Iโ€™m curious โ€”
Do you think AI is hurting the industry, or just exposing whoโ€™s actually putting in the work

fair point โ€” nobodyโ€™s claiming weโ€™ll wake up in 2026 and find a brand-new Domaining 2.0โ€ waiting at the door.
But trends donโ€™t need a calendar date to existโ€ฆ they just show up when enough people start buying the same types of names.
And as for โ€œfolks who just walked in the doorโ€” well, you know how it goes:
every generation of new domainers arrives convinced theyโ€™ve discovered something secret the veterans somehow missed.
Still, patterns do shiftโ€ฆ sometimes slowly, sometimes suddenly.
But Iโ€™m curious:
From your experience, what do you think is actually changing in domaining right now โ€” if anything at all

Haha, fair point - Iโ€™ll make sure to give the long dashes and italics a break next time.
Apparently theyโ€™re the real 2026 trend we should all be watching.
But hey if ChatGPT can survive without them, I guess my posts can too.
Always appreciate style tips - even the sharp ones

Got any more formatting trends I should prepare for before 2026 arrives

Hi

im curious too
whatโ€™s with the โ€œfair pointโ€

as for whatโ€™s changing in domaining

the redundancy of similarities about same subjects
the adoption of โ€œa eyeโ€ so readily
the increasing weight being given to appraisal tools
etc, etc

some things donโ€™t change, they evolve into something new
like hype for . WS as website or anticipation of what .TEL would be or hype for.MOBI as default for iPhone, .from PRO to . IO and .NOW we got dot A EYE

the hype game doesnโ€™t change, only what gets hyped changes

imoโ€ฆ.

Those who aren't lazy are very thankful for such domain name investors/flippers, because they leave the names that take more work/time/creativity to acquire, names that are ignored by simpletons/low IQ people and which are potentially worth more than the current keyword fashions, latest nonsense, hype and lies.

Its much like people, mostly females, who dye their hair in some horribly unnatural colour, shove various metal objects into their face and add tattoos to their face, neck and arms. They just make it so easy to spot them and avoid interacting with their likely lunatic/traumatised personas.

I truly thank them so much for identifying themselves so readily.

Any answer to this is guesswork, at best. The only possible exception is if someone is massively wealthy and has massive influence with which to push in a particular direction, after having secured key names of course.

Otherwise, its a pointless question as you won't really learn anything worthwhile from guesses.
And do you want to make investment choices based on guesses from unaccountable strangers, whose motives you know not?

It depends on how it's being used.

AI doesn't make people dumb, it helps accelerate work and find solutions . But it does not make the differrence between those who put the wrok and those who dont more visible. it actaully makes it less visible . unfortunately.
