Hey guys! Yep! TODAY IS THE DAY!

Today's the day the NHL returns after a year and a half of no action. Preseason is over, the teams are ready, the coaches have drawn up the board, the GM's have spent the budget, and the fans are ready to take in all the action! :kickass:

It really is a special day; June 7th, 2004 was the last game played in which Calgary lost 2-1 to Tampa Bay as they won the Stanley Cup. Will this be a year of surprises? A year of dissapointments? A year of expectations being met?

Some are underdogs, some are favourites; will these predictions hold up through the year?

Will some ex-elite players regain the form with which they awed fans in the past? Or will they continue their decline?

All the questions and more; their answers can be found starting today and through the 82-game regular season :tu: ! Alot of changes have been made in the NHL over the past year; teams that complained that they couldn't contend because they didn't have the money to get star players have made some huge signings. Teams that had a reputation of over-paying players are now not that attractive because of the $39 million salary cap.

I can't wait till the puck drops!

It's going to be another great season :tu: !

HOCKEY IS BACK! :D

GO LEAFS GO :] !

Your thoughts :?

I heard they've made some changes in the way the game is played to get more butts in the seats. I'm no NHL pro fan so I'm not sure what to make of these changes. Anyone wanna fill me in on the particulars???

Lemme know! :tu:

Thanks!

Basically they are trying to create more goals and make the pace of the game faster. They removed the middle line so more breakaways can happen, plus making the area between the goal and the blue line 4 feet wider means the defense will be more spread out, making offense easier. They also made the goalie's pads smaller. They also got rid of ties, so if the game is still tied after overtime, they go to a shootout.

Whoa, a lot of changes for sure... hope it will still be interesting, I loved it the way it was before anyway (guess it's cuz I'm Canadian :p )

Although as a side note, EA Sports' NHL 2006 sucks a lot, so won't satisfy replacing the real thing unfortunately :td:

BTW, the Montreal Canadiens won their first game against Boston, so you Americans can go hide in a cave! :bah:

IMO, Dallas should stick to football; not really a hockey city :p

WoW! What a great day yesterday for the NHL :tu: ! I know the Leafs/Senators game had a LOADED pregame. Number of different bands, and Andy Frost, the announcer, just made the crowd ROAR. It was awesome to watch/hear :kickass: !

Too early to make predictions, IMHO. The Leafs looked very good yesterday, eventually losing in the NHL's first ever shootout.

It was a great day; and I hope there are LOTS more to come :] !

Another rule brought in is a limitation on where the goalies can play the puck along the boards across the goal line.
