Found a top domain listed by a seller on sedo and afternic for $5k.

I thought i would contact the seller and see if he would lower his price a bit and we can get a deal done ( through either sedo or afternic)

He replied saying he does not want to sell the domain, however he has not removed the buy now price on either sedo or afternic and it has been 2 weeks since we last spoke! Now I am tempted to click 'buy now'!

Is this a waste of time? Does the seller legally have to sell if it's listed at a buy now price? Anyone come across this thing before?

Yeah but its submitting payment, waiting for about 2 weeks then it might or might not go through that's putting me off

His comment that he does not want to sell might just be a way of saying he doesn't want to drop the price.

I thought that, still feels a bit wrong through pressing ' buy now ' , might have a sleep on it!

Thanks for the advice

Are you certain that the present owner is the one who has the domain listed on Sedo/Afternic? Perhaps the present owner bought it in a private deal, is an end user and plans to develop the domain and not sell it, and the previous owner who sold it to him hasn't removed their old listings on Sedo/Afternic...

But if you're certain the current owner is indeed the one who has the domain listed for sale, and $5K is a price you want to pay for the domain, by all means then click the buy now button. Simple math: owner has the domain listed for sale; it's a price you seem to be okay with; and if they TRULY didn't want to sell it, there's no way they'd have it listed with a buy now price - I suspect it's a case of them really liking the domain or having vague plans to develop it, but if someone comes along and hits that big buy now price, they'll take it. I have a few domains like that - when people email me I just say they're not for sale, because I do intend to develop them - but I also have them listed for sale at Sedo/Afternic for a healthy price; I figure if someone hits the buy now button at that price, fine, but I don't bother with trying to negotiate through emails for those particular domains.

So if you hit the buy now button, the worst that can happen is the owner doesn't honor the sale, in which case you get your cash back from Sedo/Afternic and owner gets slapped on the wrist for not honoring the sale. And the best that can happen is the sale goes through smoothly and you get a domain you want for a price you like.

Unless there's something I'm missing?

Do a Whois history search to see when it was last sold. Whoxy.com has become my favorite site for this and it's free for the most part.
