Some interesting statistics I came across.
(I can't vouch for the accuracy of the data - just something I came across).

In my view:

(1) .com is king

(2) .us is very weak (given it is a true ccTLD for a large economically developed country) - even .au leaves it for dust (Australia - population 18 million) and .nz (New Zealand - population 4 million!) has half the server count.

(Why is this?)

(3) .tv growth is very promising.

All in all though, .tv still very much in the minority. So choose wisely....

I have said it and will continue to say it. Dot TV is this amazing phenomenon because TLDs like Dot Com, Info, Dot US, Dot Org have been discounted to the point of making dot tv look like an overpriced Ferrari. The reality is that there are some good generic names available on Dot TV that you would pay a fortune for if they were Dot Coms. If you look at what businesses have been established for a particular Dot Com name, then I would say there is that much potential for a Dot TV name, and more.

The above post is made with the obvious disclaimer for trademark infringements.

When I first saw 38,000 regges for .TV, I was quite disappointed...the way I couldn't seem to find any decent non premiums - I was under the illusion that there were many more regges than 38,000......

I saw this post a few days ago and was a little depressed about it until last night when it suddenly came to me.......the reason there is only 38,000 is because so few .TV regges make good business sense.......for every 3000 (figure plucked totally out of the air!!!) .coms it may only make make sense to reg one .TV.........and this concept makes it so financially wasteful when newbies such as myself (in my first six months anyway) reg .TVs that are so inappropriate to the extention - that it hurts.....

So there is a point where it no longer makes sense to reg any more .TVs and I think we are getting very near that point.....I spend at least half an hour a day searching for decent non premium .TV's and I have not regged one in over a month!!

For those who know me, willl appreciate that last sentence.

On a closing and unrelate point - I think that .MOBI should have even less regges than .TV - purely restricting itself to services on the go - or cellphone related download services......from what I have seen the amount of regges have been overwhelming and the quality of them so totally irrelevent, that if numbers soon show that these have succeeded .TV - it will not be because .mobi holds more promise but because .mobi regges have been so awful.

Miller,

I think .mobi will be successful, but just like what people say about .com being just as good a place to put up a tv related site, I believe the same thing: .tv is just as great a place to host the same contnet you would on a .mobi. .tv one ups both dot com and dot mobi. It is one letter shorter than .com and two shorter than .mobi.

Only thing that can really rock under either .mobi and .tv from a speculator standpoint are popular generic keywords, like ringtones, wallpaper, cars...etc. Anything else just does not have the same upside. in those instances, value depends on brand and content.

I have to point out that this is by server count, which almost invariably means by "developed" .tv - not # of regs

That statistic is fantastic then - all those regges taken to development - imagine the countless number of those that are not just yet...thanx for the clarification....
