When a name drops from a list what time in the day does it happen? Mornings, afernoons, 12:01?

It varies, primarily depending on the extension, but sometimes also by who the current registrar is. Your best bet would be to note the best domains that are deleting on a certain date, then checking the whois after the drop to see what time they were registered. For a list of deleting domains, you can go to Pool.com or namewinner.com. TO check the whois afterwards, go to whois.sc.

whois.sc sometimes isn't immediately up-to-date. Try a domain registrar's version first.
