Customs Lets Man In U.S., But Takes Bloody Chainsaw, Sword

BOSTON -- On the morning of April 25, Gregory Despres hitchhiked to the Canadian border crossing at Calais, Maine, carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chain saw stained by what appeared to be blood.

Customs officials confiscated the cache of weapons and fingerprinted Despres, but allowed him to enter the United States -- not knowing the gruesome scene about to unfold in the hitchhiker's hometown.

Well they make a good point... you can't detain someone because they "look like" they might commit a murder, and since he wasn't wanted for anything, he couldn't be detain (even though it would be common sense with the slew of weapons he had), but let's say someone is detained because they "look like" they *might* commit a murder, but really they turn out to be completely innocent, there would be just as many people complaining about that. Can't have it both ways...

dude, its the friggin border.. a million and a half people a year come into the US via Mexico illegally and unchallenged, into the worlds most powerful nation.

why should canada be any different?

sad sad case and even more firepower to those fighting for tougher border controls on both sides of the US/canadian border.

I am one that believes we need borders with both Canada and Mexico like they had in Germany. But with check points and thats the only way in or out. If caught crossing in another spot... dont cry when shot at!!!

They should have held him for a few hours for the weapons he had.... but other than that I guess they did what they could.

Lee .... Come on now ... Who flipped your Liberal switch

:D J/K Bro - With the items they found - I truly believe they would be within their rights to Hold this LOSER a bit longer to investigate him a bit. We have given up more rights than this at the Airports already -

After today's News about the F B I not needing Search Warrants signed by Judges ~ Maybe they need to take over Border Patrol ... :!:

well all4, I would agree. but if I got stopped everytime I crossed the border just cause I was carrying a hacksaw, chainsaw, machette, mallet and each had blood on them.. I'd be pissed :P

actually bud, my point is.. since no one seems to be headed in the right direction yet..

if this guy was arabic.. no one would peep that they should have stopped and checked further. as a matter of fact, if they had (and he was arabic) the ACLU most likely would have sued... claimed racial profiling..etc.

the fact is, we are allowed to carry around blood stained instruments without law enforcement interceeding.

though im not sure if we let foreigners do the same?? was this guy a canadian or an American?

I came back from Can a few summers ago and they were questioning my brother and I(we are both under 18!) because we had not planned on going into Canada and didn't bring photo ID's(we didn't have drivers licence's or school ID's). At first they didn't even know that we were in the car intel my brother started talking. Then they wanted to see ID's for him and I. Thankfully my mom found some really old ID's that worked.

but -DB-, we can't judge canadians by there looks man :P

God, imagine if we did that... and how we would treat Australians?!?! We would spoil all those hot Aussies to death lol (ok so I MAY have a thing for hot Aussie chicks ;))

True Lee, I should not stereotype this one young man, just because he looks scary in that picture. After all, much of today's youth walk around looking like they just killed a family. It's hard to tell.

But look at his eyes. So big, soo scary. Those are 'allegedly' the young eyes that just watched their own hands cut off the head of a person and put it inside a pillowcase. That dude will never be the same.

Ok, I wish I never looked at that kid's picture, and read about what he 'allegedly' did.

I've got the creeps. I'm probably having nightmares tonight.

The eyes.... it's those eyes. D-:
