If you wanted to have a website about cars. Would it be wise to have a website like scar.com as the domain? You could brand it as "searching cars" or something. I am just asking a theoretical question about using a short domain that has the word "car" in it for a car site, but happens to be another word. Is this a bad idea?

It would work if scar wasn't a word, but because it is you'll struggle. However, saying that, it could work well. If you can find a way of 'working' scar to be relevant - like confused.com have, confused about car insurance - then you should be alright. We can never fully say the result of doing it, but personally I'd recommend against it.

Thanks for the comment. What about a used goods website that had the domain "mused.com" or "amused.com" or "fused.com" or "reused.com"? Would that be a better match for example?

This is something that might work with as like S-Car or something, but you'd probably be much better off monetizing (and taking advantage of) for scar related issues.
