I was just curious. I've recently purchased a few domains that are all in the same "theme" - what I mean is that they are for various types of sites and the domain is basically one word which is a keyword for that type and a second word which is common to all these domains. My plan is to basically over time build a network of a few sites covering various different things. For example:

templatepros.com (template sales)
hostingpros.coms (hosting services)
programmingpros.com (programming services)

and so on (the above are just random names which are already taken :) )

I was wondering if purchasing domains such as this which are seemingly in the same *industry* would make them together a valuable collection. I've come across quite a few people who operate multiple sites, each dealing with a different niche in the internet market. I think people might find this attractive if they have thought about building many different sites.

I'd like to hear opinions on this.

It could add value as a collection I guess but one Domain could cover everything like WebPros.com etc...

Also, I would want to own ALL of them in my industry which would be hard to find unregged I would think?

Yes conceivably one domain would cover everything but then your site would be very cluttered. Lets say you started off in the hosting business. You probably would not register webpros.com, you'd register hostingpros.com After some time you realize there's some market in selling domains since your clients are just buying hosting they may also want to buy a template, so you decide to become a reseller for TM monster and build a site to sell templates. You'd probably want to then register templatepros.com right? That way it's within your company identity, and you can transfer people to that site to buy the template. I guess the idea is that this would be for people who started out doing one thing and then wanted to branch out...so such a person might be willing to pay for a domain that fits in well with their existing identity...

Agree but... always a but ;) you could reg/buy Pros.com and have Template.Pros.com etc... which I would say is much better and a heck of a lot easier to maintain.

Right...but that's if you had the foresight and bought webpros.com

If you bought just hostingpros.com then template.hostingpros.com would still be OK but not quite as nice... :)

As much as you try, you still will not cover all the bases IMO.

Grab a couple of popular extensions and let the chips fall where they may.
