The Value of Last Names

Im not sure if anyone has any experience. But I happen to own a few last names. Most of them not too popular. About 200,000 + google results for them. I recieved an offer on one of them. And I asked for what I considered to be a reasonable price for a lastname.com

What is your opinion on value of these names? What is a reasonable asking price and or sales price?

Really hard to say without knowing and researching its potential - Brown is a very common surname but as you know, worth a shed load !

I was hoping to get the short version of my last name in the .net but you won it :p

(not that I was really expecting to win it, a LLL.net )

I too own a few short semi-popular last names. Some get over 2mil google returns so I know they are used.

I'm not sure of the value though, I'd say anywhere between 100 - 3,000 for a last name that gets 200k or less in Google returns.

Write 1-9 in a random order on some paper, do that 3 times in a row. Close your eyes, extend your left index finger, right index finger and right thumb and drop it on the paper. You have your price :)

I like the idea of last names, as the value to a wealthy end-user would of course be hyper-inflated (With the cash flow so goes the ego!), but last names in the 10,000 - 20,000 range can still be picked up for a song on TDNAM firesale or snap's old $9 ($9? Yeah?) system.
<oops> You said 200,000 - that would have to be more than what I originally wrote - redacted ;)

I'd kinda agree with GreenGambler, but of course it very much depends on the name and who wants it. I have several last name domains as well. I've never received an offer over $100 for any of them. I should have sold them :(

I had a $200 offer for "Mickson dot com" which I turned down; google on it is in the low-low tens of thousands at the time (Dropped now I think - not even sure if that's possible - but it's 13.5k results).
Using the name for something else in the future so $200 wasn't worth it, but I think the value is "on target" for what it is.
