Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Welcome aboard :) any hints on the domain name??

Thanks but I cannot .Tel :hehe:

Ok maybe a hint. Its opposite of pizza.

Also picked up a great 3-letter just now.

Anyways, I like .Tel for its simplicity and direct content. Of course, mobility is where the money is. :$:

.Tel registrar support & innovation .... "Where's the beef?"

One thing that will soon become apparent is just how committed each registrar is to helping .Tel registrants build our respective businesses.

As I understand, each registrar has the set of rules, protocols and a few applications etc. developed by Telnic, and they must decide how to build and deploy their own backend management systems that will allow us to incorporate and manage the data that makes up our .Tel "sites".

It will be interesting to see what new innovations registrars come up with that will benefit their .Tel registrants and how much "transfer" activity will take place as Domainers migrate away from registrars that are only interested in new reg fees and migrate TO registrars that deliver useful value added services.

Any bets on the front runners?

Really what I'm wondering is what if you do want to make your email address public but don't want it to be text readable by bots?
The solution is to stick with a 'real' website with a contact form that allows visitor to contact you without revealing your E-mail address :)

maybe you could use a dot tel for something else then contacts.....like a database
for music...or shopping memo ...private stuff.?

you can add notes on tel i think....maybe a diary...or sumut
In theory you could try to find some use. But in practice there are much better options available.
For example it was mentioned .tel could be used for surveys. Seriously what's the point of using a .tel 'webpage' as a polling booth, as it cannot even be customized. All that you've got is a dull page, plain links, no forms, nothing.
I do not see how using a .tel domain is a superior solution to what's currently available.
On a side note I am really curious to see how you're all going to use your domains :snaphappy:

what is the opposite of pizza? Chinese food? Hamburger?

Starting to see some 3 letters disappear. I was hoping to wait till March but couldnt so I picked up Alt.Tel... what do you think?

Background on my pick.. (well this is how I convinced myself)
Alt can stand for Alternative and is also related to keyboard key alt.
It is also known on the older usenet groups.
And lets not forget the Adult areas that the word alt represents.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for registrars to help "build our respective businesses" or "benefit their .Tel registrants". In my experience, it has been pretty much the opposite with few exceptions.

While I can't argue with that, my sense is that this extension will be more susceptible to transfer if one registrar clearly outperforms the others in terms of basic applications that Domainers don't have to have custom made.

Like everything else with this new TLD, only time will tell.

I think MicroGuy has a point. Registrars only register domains and not develop domains. Maybe this will be a future initiative of .TEL partner "Domain Monster"

However, I will be rolling out a new .TEL service (TelFu.com) that will develop .TEL domains with front end service directory that reflects that same look and feel of Yellow Pages.

Also, advertisers will have a chance to both leverage & measure real-time analytics on "Calls Recieved including caller's name, address, & email".

Lastly, TelFu.com will offer in-house SEO to make sure your .TEL has top page visibility.

Stay tuned for BETA....... April 2009.

Great! The ideas keep flowing.

One is limited ONLY by one's imagination. There are always viable workarounds.

Let's not forget guys that .tel can evolve in future. What we are seeing now is just the standard (some would say boring) version of .tel. From what I understand, telnic may enhance the standard template in future as required- whilst it must remain in the same basic format, it may eventually be possible to have the option to at least change the template colour etc (providing it's still easy to read of course)...Im sure mild customisation may be a possibility..but more importantly, .tel as a basic platform is ideal to the needs of the internet as it goes forward- some have said it would have been useful in 1999 but not 2009...I have a feeling this comment relates to the basic layout of a .tel with its 'Spartan' appearance..I really think though that as the internet begins to explode worldwide, this extension will prove to be invaluable in creating an organised way to access information, that cannot be easily done on google or with a website, or any other format on a global scale at present. As time progresses and the world gravitates to .tel because of its basic ease of use and quick download time (although this second aspect may not be as important in future as everything may load lightning fast- apart from justin.tel, lol), .tel will be the first point of contact even above a .com. This is my prediction for what it's worth (maybe not much) but it will be interesting to watch it progress, these are the reasons I have put my money where my mouth is and spent over $3000 in .tel's future- a gamble? Maybee, but unlikely (for decent names)- in any case a hell of a lot more secure than investing in many other things at the moment in these volatile times. Id rather have my real estate on the internet than anywhere else right now. Sure dot coms are king, but who really knows for how long into the distant future.

I have my fingers crossed for you guys. I tried to get 3 premium names pre ordered and missed out on them. Was away for a week at the time and when I got back most of the names I had lower confidence in had ie the not so premium premiums had been taken also. Noticed on a day to day basis names I was considering have been taken. My cashflow is short so I'm wary on what I spend it on. As such I'll be waiting for general release to pick up a few.

My personal thoughts on .tel are that it could just go and make it but it depends on a few factors.
We are on a tipping point (as always) with the internet where new technology and new view points will be coming forward and merging with mobile technology which will be exploited to newer levels.

The public are almost ready for it IMHO and are adapting to these new virtual enviroments quicker and quicker (see twitter and facebook and skype) where years ago there was only message boards and msn for the geeky among us. Although I'm not sure whether download speed will be a problem in the future for most mobile devices.

A new example at the opposite end of the spectrum is found here. http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/560221-microsoft-eliminates-urls-gettag-mobi-promotes.html

However the most important thing is for the domainers among .tel to turn in developers and get at least half of your .tels out and seen by the public. Otherwise people wont know about it.

Not sure why the delay in the whois has been allowed but I'd imagine it is a great marketing ploy. A large number of names will have been purchased by then. No one knows who actually owns trademarks or geos or keywords is it investors who may sit on them or actually "end users" who will utilise them from the start. This will most certainly influence the immediate success or stagnation.

My last comment is that I am interested to see how certain registrars handle the .tel dns "hosting" as some of these companys dont actually provide hosting at present. I'm hoping the infrastructure will be in place from the word go. As otherwise there may be alot of people having to wait the 60 days before they can migrate there domains.

Thats my thoughts addressed. I'd be interested to hear more of your thoughts.

Hopefully there will be few left for me on general release day. Good luck on your selective investments.

Thanks guys, will have a look at name.com.
Did you receive your domains at name.com immediately after you paid the reg fees? Is the whois working yet, because I can't seem to find it?
