Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

next thing I'll hear is "tel.company.com" is easier then buying a .tel

pay attention.

http://www.free411.com/about/pressreleases/p20080131

As of January 2008,
a six percent market share of the U.S. directory assistance (DA) market and more than 20 million calls a month.

If a six percent market share was the equivalent of 20 million calls per month then it shows that there was a market of approximately 333 million calls for directory assistance per month in the US alone (as of a year ago)

More than 80,000 businesses have already used 1-800-FREE411 to reach consumers when they are in the ready-to-buy mode.

Thats not an insignificant number of businesses.

Do me a favor. dial 1-800-free-411 right now, and just try to get some information. If I had just a dollar for every time i've wanted to throw my phone in complete disgust over ridiculously clumsy voice recognition, not to mention just the absolute annoyance of having to hear an automated voice, I'd probably have enough to purchase another .tel

In fact, the continued growth of the free DA search platform is supported by The Kelsey Groupโ€™s estimation that annual U.S. revenues for ad-sponsored DA will grow from $14 million in 2007 to $462 million in 2012.

There's money to be made. If you cant figure out how to make it then get out of the way.

The only people making money on this dog will be the registry (as always) and those that get in and out early. There are many mobi domainers holding the same garbage now being registered in this extension and they are worthless but somehow this one will be different? Please. Live and learn or repeat the same mistakes - the choice is yours.

:tu: Agreed.

So how about you go for a specific group of .tel geos that might be useful to a tv, radio station or newspaper. A potential threat to their advertising revenue but also a perfect tie in for them going forward. Maybe an opportunity not be missed!

Didn't you hear? They are gearing up for t.company.com that way you wont have to type in tel just "t"! ;)

"You can do exactly the same thing with a 't.company.com' as a 'company.tel'!"
"Therefore '.tel' is useless and unnecessary!" :p

Your logic will make all tls unnecessary! why not just put us.company.com or co.uk.company.com and go wherever you want to go.

.tel will create lock-in, both technically and culturally, as an ecosystem of applications and services grow around the .telspace.

Feel free to put a t/tel CNAME on your domain and fill the zone with records (would you use the same specifications produced by Telnic?), but I doubt anybody/anything would use them.

I don't think you've really grasped the concept fully.

hahaha, I hope this includes yours above too then, lol... was just an innocent and minor diversion for the sake of sanity my friend. We are all back on track now thankyou and to keep this post on track... I'm noticing that the list of dot tels I had on my GA list is even now slipping away (ever so slowly) one by one to landrush even at this late stage... I guess it will keep going like this for the next 36 days too until very few decent name will be left. I wonder though how many of these buy ups are being made by domainers compared to the regular non domaining public.

As of yesterday, there were some premium three-letter .tel's left; unfortunately, they don't fit the TLD very well, although a good marketer could make them work. I imagine they will be gone by March 24.

I suppose thegayestband.tel is still left, though back in the sixties, that style was considered cool. When I was doing research for my book, I ran across that vid...

I have stopped checking .tel now--just too tempting and expensive.

.TEL - From Static to Dynamic!!!

.TEL - From Static to Dynamic!!!

Over the years, there have been substantial changes and or improvements to web based technology.

Take for example the evolution of web page extensions. Initially, early web servers were configured to recognized only HTM and HTML file extensions, but then better technology was born!!!

Adding a more features and capabilities, .ASP and .PHP file extensions busts on the scene. Better still, these type of file extensions helped web pages convert from STATIC to Dynamic.

Using this same framework, .TEL technology has raised the game of ALL generic TLDs much like 3G technology has raised the game of standard mobile phone technology. Hmmm..... there's some food for thought?......

What are the advantages of .TEL technology?

The .tel uses the Domain Name System (DNS) in a way that empowers .tel domain owners, whether businesses or individuals, to control how and where people can communicate with them.

Better yet, .Tel does not communicate with web content or email -- it enables communication with people, which by the way is the AIM of every smart & profitable business.

Many may ask, What set's .TEL technology apart from .COM

.Tel utilizes NAPTR, TXT and LOC records within the DNS and thereby power a superior solution for contact management which enables both individuals and businesses to store data directly within the DNS.

For example, 3 of 5 NAPTR records will allow for the publication and
management of contact information in a way never before possible, including all phone number types, email addresses, fax numbers, VoIP services.

These NAPTR records can also point to other NAPTR records, allowing for navigation through a tree of contact information based on geography, department or any other segmentation. They allow for unlimited updating of dynamically changing content (sounds familiar) and offer phone pinging capabilities, which makes communication using the .tel as easy as possible for the users.

The bottom line is that .Tel offers an innovative contact management platform that could possibly be developed into a springboard for a Point of Sale system.

Of course, it will be up to individual .TEL owners as to how the market their share!!! And hopefully, no cybersquatting!!!

Here's what I can summarize from the reading (from a tech savvy person's perspective)

Bottom line is... every TLD can do what .tel can do.
.tel has restrictions.

Why did they put those techno mumbo jumbo in the article?

It'll just confuse the people who do not know how DNS/hosting/A record and such works.
