Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Not big on hacks for this extension.... I think it has to be more focused.
Although..... I guess you could use that to sell watches/clocks/timepieces etc... :bingo:

Hmmmm...... You should reg it vJRB!
lol, you could also list all the telephone numbers of the talking clocks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speaking_clock :D

Thanks for bringing this up! If I unterstand this correctly, then any directory service is prohibited. Thus any generic / geo name like hotel.tel, newyork.tel etc. would be pointless, because you aren't allowed to publish third party entries under a .tel domain!

I think his interpretation is wrong. What it means is that you can't sell or lease canonical domains. For example, I couldn't sell hilton.hotels.tel to Hilton - but there's nothing to prohibit me from coming to an agreement with them for advertising within a more generic space like nyc.hotels.tel.

That's my understanding of an admittedly poorly written clause anyway. Hopefully the Telnic guys will clear some of these questions up. They already wrote a blog post about how .tel can be monetised..

I agree! See my previous post.

One thing I am trying to figure out right now is if there is a size limit?? Can't find info on this anywhere.... Is there a maximum # of entries per .tel site??

Hello,

The who is working?

I didn't get three of my .tels, but I was just notified that two of my names were successful, so my card was billed.

However, my account still shows "pending" on the successful order, and the Whois says unavailable.

Once the Whois resolves, I'll reveal them.

Unfortunately, my application for the most monetizing domains failed, which isn't surprising.

ONE MORE THING:

Just because your card has been charged, don't assume that registration has been successful--that is, until you can verify check WHOIS.

I think that we can expect some glitches.

You must be right. Dynadot must have had a glitch earlier and
fixed it now. Looks like any random NNN is not available. For a
second I was ready to get out my credit card :D

I think it's cheaper to have a domain name like geonametel.com (add tel before dot com)

:)

I regged two of those types of .com in the domains I didn't get.

Maybe the winner will want them.

At the moment, dot tel has a very limited use. This extension is not meant for conventional websites. That is why I think it is not for domainers who plan to resell or monetize them. Investment in any field without proper homework is always risky. There is a possibility that in distant future some new devices find any better use of this extension, as has been promised and predicted for .mobi. Is it wise to invest in dot tel? Yes for those who want to take a long-term position (i.e. 10-15 years) and are willing to pay renewal fees for their .tel portfolio every year. For impatient people who plan to sell their .tels in 3-5 years time, this extension is simply waste of money. :)

I regged writer.tel. I did not pre-book it because I had already pre-booked five names.

However, my three super premiums "failed," so decided to just reg it, and that will be it for me. Two are still "pending" (although my card has been charged and order confirmed); Once the dust settles and Whois is available, I'll participate in this thread.

I already have writer.me, so I can use the .tel to work with this.

2/6 of my pre-order worked, and I'm quite happy cause they are related:

nightlife
nightclubs

I think they are perfect for a "yellow pages" type of site.

There are a couple of geo I would have liked to get too, but that's life.

Ok, I'm done with .tel, no more for me!
It's still VERY unclear to me if this extension has some future.

I would advise against the registering of any hacks during landrush. I'm sure you can pre-order them for general availability and they will still be available, saving you hundreds.

I think in the case of .tel the hack is a bad investment, and especially at the price of landrush

I mentioned in the other .tel thread that I hand regged writer.tel through Dynadot; I think I got it (got confirmation email, and it appears to be locked in my account).

If the other two go my way, I'll have three, and that will be enough during landrush.

I totally agree here; there aren't that many one-worders anyway.

At these prices, I certainly wouldn't do a two-word hack.

I might screw this quote up a little bit... But Warren Buffet said something to the effect of...

"Be FEARFUL when everyone is greedy, and be GREEDY when everyone is fearful."

This is very good advice for those who want to be filthy rich!

If you don't gamble....You will never win.

Most succesful people have had many failures to go along with their success', the point is... If they didn't gamble, they wouldn't have had their failures OR success's!!
