I have been playing around with some numbers I found on this forum, came up with an interesting thought experment. Someone said that the cheapest 2 letter .com you probably could get for, say, $60K.
The cheapest 3 letter .coms run about $2K.

Do you guys agree with these (very) rough guesses?
If these numbers are in the right range then since:
there are 26 letters,
60K is a little more than 26 times 2K

Then does it follow that:
2K should be a little more than 26 times the "natural" current value of the lower tier LLLL.com domains?

In other words the cheaper LLLL that you can register today are "worth" around $60 and the market is held back by the fact that many domains are still available.

The only flaw I can see in the above is that the reg fee is a higher cost as a percentage of value in the cheaper domains.

Have at it guys -- That seems way too high, what am I missing?

I will sell it for 10 K each. Bcoz I am 24 right now and can stick to it for other 36 years to come. If I am not so lucky to live that long then I will teach my son how to deal with it. :D

I hope you don't have to wait that long, nick. Somebody has a stat that the domain appriciates 100% year over year. Assume what you have is reg fee, it only takes 10 year for your 1k fold. :hehe:

Quote from Lasher, way back up there:
I ran a scan on a dictionary file I have of just under 50k words and the results by letter are ...
I have a dictionary with black tabs marking the letters. If you twist it a bit you can see the relative sizes of the letter listings. Your way is better.

Even better would be to run a list of business names --- with different fields for the first word, second word, third, and fourth. I expect the position matters - more "a"s in first place for example. This would also give a better idea of how many companies have 2,3,4, 5 word names.

I ran a rough check with my telephone book of the double pages for each letter. My area (Pacific NW, USA) has people of a variety of origins, but should not be considered indicative of the country as a whole - much less the world. It also, as you can see, is a small sample. Still, it would surprise me if it is too far off:
A - 5
B - 11
C - 9
D - 5
E - 3
F - 4
G - 6
H - 9
I - >1
J - 4
K - 4
L - 6
M - 10
N - 3
O - 2
P - 7
Q - 1/3
R - 6
S - 12
T - 4
U - 1/2
V - 1
W - 7
X - ~0
Y - 1/2
Z - 1/2

You can see there are some significant differences. "A" is way down, "B" is number two instead of five ...... and look at poor little "I" - a real loss of status. One way to get an advantage is to use data others miss.

Wow!
My first letters of my name are the most popular...

So if I use your formula I can see the potential of the LLLL.com's I own?

JDGH = 24
RCRN = 24
UPLR = 19 1/2
MIGQ = 17 1/3

I am surprised at the results, I would not have thought that RCRN would tie JDGH because of the J, it's generally thought to be an unpopular letter.

That is my point - if there are things that are unpopular now and the reasoning is invalid, then they have an advantage for the future. I feel "J" is under-rated and perhaps "N" is over-rated.
Think of how many Johnsons and Jones there are. The question still remains what percentage of LLLL sites are based on initials of peoples names?

It might be more valid to multiply the rankings, rather than to add them. A low rank letter can really pull a name down. A very large percentage of the available names have a "Q". I am not sure I would want SBQM.com .

I looked up SPQR though and it is taken. That is what the Roman soldiers carry in all the old movies.

J IS underrated...my last name starts with a J. :hehe:

And you are right about the initials, how many of us have checked to see if ours are availabe? I have.
