It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it.

Because regs spiked from 120k to 400k in a very short period of time.

The thing about traditional domains like .com, .net etc. being good for SEO is that is not only TLD but searchers are more familiar with the traditional domain names. The gTLD .pro is good for exhibiting professional services and if the website is well optimised, then it will rank higher in the SERPs.
