It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it. B-)

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

Alexandria.pro

Anchorage.pro

Arlington.pro

Belfast.pro

Birmingham.pro

Budapest.pro

Durham.pro

Fairfax.pro

Italian.pro

Lisbon.pro

Fire away with your regs after the relaunch on September 8th, 2008.

Anyone used name.com for .pro? Noticed they have them on the price lists and are a bit more expensive @ $20

I figure the goal is to buy as low as you can., so most people I know buying .pro's are using encirca for 9.95 first year, $14.95 renewals.

I wish they would drop their renewal fees..but they are the cheapest i know of out there.

so register and be happy!

I'm very happy with EnCirca. Great registrar. Great prices. Great service.

it would be really great if they reduced their prices to 9.95 including renewals! But don't don't foresee that anytime soon...

agreed. 9.95 renewals would be fantastic.

"All Businesses" covers a lot of territory. IMO.

The marketing from RegistryPro has been especially poor recently. A year ago they were doing Best of .pro, 1,2,3 character auctions, Namejet auctions, amending their registry agreement, reducing prices, all things that generate interest in .pro and/or make the running the registry more commercially viable. Things have been very quiet of late, disappointed with the lack ideas from the new CEO Karim Jiwani. Doing nothing achieves nothing. They have no future running third party registries until they make a success of their own.

Great domain! Didn't know you had that one...its a steal it 1,500. I've always thought my flyfishing.pro was a good one and obviously a single word is far better.

It's sad that hostway seems more concerned about gearing up on new extensions rather than promote the one they own. .Pro is a seriously good extension as there are going to be few new domains that can match the power that pro packs and very few that will apply to anywhere near the tremendous demographic that pro appeals to.

I think they are plain crazy not to push this thing harder.

Who in the HECK is spending all of that money on Pro's when they are still available to be handregged for $9.99 ?? I own SportFishing.pro, GameFishing.pro, Marlin.pro and BlueMarlin.pro and any of them can be had for considerably less than what I'm seeing on this thread.

Fishing would include flyfishing, gamefishing, sportfishing, possibly even marlin and other fish types.

Add up all the reg and renewal fees on those over a 10 year period and you realise why fishing.pro is probably a steal at $1500.

Exotic extensions, and lets face it, till we have a mass market that's all that .pro is atm, what really sells is single word category leading keywords and maybe at time two word domains with unreal search numbers.

You can buy a lot of good single-word domains for $1500. It's also a LOT of money to be spending on a Pro, especially when hearing that Hostway is gearing up for the big extension flood next year. And registrypro sure is being quiet about their new CEO and his plans for Pro.

And when comparing value you definitely need to change that ten years to no more than five. Not many people in their right mind are going to be holding Pros eight years from now. If it hasn't happened for the Pro extension within three or four years I don't believe it's going to happen.

IMO

I believe a keyword is more important than the extension.

That's my viewpoint.

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't that what ICANNs newtld initiative is all about?

You bet a keyword is more important than the extension. And I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

Can you point me to "ICANNs newtld initiative?" I don't know the first thing about it.

I know I would say this but I think Fishing.pro is cheap at $1,500, I only sent it to auction at that price because I had two new additions to the family this week and figured the money would come in handy. I struggled to find good .pros to register in 2007 when there were only 6,500 regged so how easy it is to hand register now with 50,000+ depends on how low your standards are. You can hand register SportFishing.pro and GameFishing.pro got $9.99 but you have little chance of selling them and I thought that was why we are here?

Congrats on the twins!!!

And I didn't comment on Fishing.pro. But, I know the people that make their livings with charters and I know what they like. And they'll like these four. As far as having little chance of selling them, you having very little chance of selling any Pro for the time being.

But fortunately 70% of my Pros are one word. And I think that quite a few of the two-word names are as strong as a one word name ......... Swimwear, Peanutbutter, etc.

Sorry. I misunderstood what you meant. I've just never heard "it" referred to as the "newtld initiative." Sounds like the kind of phrase a politician would use while raising your taxes.

And regarding the new TLDs, I have a not-so-good feeling that I underestimated the negative effect that they are going to have on Pros. I hope that someone's going to tell me how wrong I am.

Here's another way to look at Fishing.pro. If you own a piano store do you want to buy TheStore.pro or ThePianoStore.pro. And if you own a Marlin boat, would you want to buy Fishing.pro or Marlin.pro? If you want to stay booked all season with Marlin fishermen you buy Marlin.pro. Fishing.pro should be worth a lot of money but it covers such a broad range that it would be a massive undertaking to develop ... not that I wouldn't love to own it.

I take that back. It's not the fact that it's a big job, it's that Fishing is just too broad for most fishermen.

All you have to do is walk down the docks at Hatteras or Ocracoke and read the names on the backs of the boats to see what I mean. Or walk through a mall and check out the names of the stores ... Book Store, Music Store, Jeans Store, Candy Store, etc.

OK, dead horse has now been beaten to death.

You're too young to have known the real Darth Vader.

Think of me as your uncle, Jabba the Hutt.
