It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it. B-)

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

Alexandria.pro

Anchorage.pro

Arlington.pro

Belfast.pro

Birmingham.pro

Budapest.pro

Durham.pro

Fairfax.pro

Italian.pro

Lisbon.pro

Fire away with your regs after the relaunch on September 8th, 2008.

any chance of allowing 3rd party listings at total.pro?

Total.pro is something I do for fun, I prefer to keep it simple with just my .pros. There are only so many hours in the day.

Touch.pro, Music.pro and Paris.pro are all old .pro sales as far as I know.

I was going through reported sales feed of sedo, and they were listed recently.

I sold Touch.pro on Sedo 5 months ago. Maybe they are catching up with their reporting.

After three fairly static months, total .pros registered started rising again in March 2010, up 5.8% or 2,342 .pros to 44,330. The biggest gaining registrar was Network Solutions, up by 1,006 .pros to 9,844. Gandi, OVH, Encirca, and DomainPeople split the remainder of the rise around 300 apiece.

Hi everyone,

First and foremost, please know that I share your enthusiasm for the .pro TLD. Quick question for the experts here: :)

Let's say that I want the domain "Production.pro" and it's taken (which it is, but just an example).

Would "Producing.pro" or "Produce.pro (not intended for a fruits/veggies site)" be good alternatives, or would you recommend just dropping it altogether and getting something else?

Keep in mind that I don't really *need* "Production.pro" to begin with, and am just looking for good domains in general, so I am curious as to what your thoughts are on settling for a lesser version or just moving on to the next available idea.

Thanks for your time, and I look forward to posting more.

Best regards,
webdevsys

producer.pro may be good option, but most likely taken. I don't like the other ones you mentioned as they are not as direct. also you could look at productions plural. sometimes people don't buy the plural form which is a mistake. best luck! It was cool to see total pro showing an increase in domains being purchased in the month!

It would be great to see more companies realize the benefit of a pro extension as I think its a real marketing opportunity that has yet to really be developed and capitalized on. Id love to see a larger company get behind this as .pro to me presents a certain quality of service that could potentially be sold as a more premium website destination than the other alternate tlds.

Well thats the reason, I generally got into .pro in the first place.

The first thing I would do is put the various permutations into Google without the dot in quote marks and see how many uniques there are;

ProductionPro - 2,120
ProducePro - 1,180
ProducingPro - 49

That gives you an idea of Pro branding and association. Generally, whatever sounds and works best will have the higher value.

Then I would look at the keywords people use when searching for your particular product or service. If people search for film production, I would use Producing.pro for SEO purposes.

As you pointed out, if a combination causes ambiguity like Produce.pro, I would avoid it. On the whole I would avoid "ing". Virtually no well known brands have "ing" on the end. The only exception I would make is where the "ing" version of the word is a standalone word. For example, I own Training.pro and I don't think anybody would hold the "ing" against it because it the searched for version and standalone category.

Thanks for your input. :)

I also understand that I need a professional/business license to activate and retain my domains. If I went down to the local courthouse and registered a $20 sole proprietorship, would that be sufficient?

And if not, would anyone be kind enough to offer some suggestions?

Who said that .pro is worthless or could not rank high on huge search keywords, well ladies and gentlement, change your way of view!
I'm was looking for the upcoming game Starcraft 2 and search on Google, what my surprise Starcraft2.pro was on top 5, first page.

So I will invest on .pro rather than .co

Already started with HaloReach.pro (game release in sept) so have time to build backlinks and website.
Because there are huge Pro gamers that .pro fit it.

well I be damned

It was me! and I hope you just proved me wrong. This is the first .pro result I've seen on the top page. I hope there are others.

I may be biased but .pros are a far better investment than .co

.co is good if you can get a very highly searched .com equivalent and perhaps draft off the typos. But, honestly I'd be suprised if they have that much a future.

Hey, thanks for sharing the first pro google result.

:D

@steveteva
Good to see that. However, Starcraft2.pro and a few like this are rare examples, you cannot generalise them.

I guess there are some money problems at DomainPeople, because they are trying to charge me renewals for some .pro expiring in October!
