Ever own a great name and regret letting it go? Or worse, ever own one and sell it, only to see somebody else sell it later for a huge multiple of what you sold it for? How about passing on buying a name that was later sold for a huge sum? :sold:

Without selling names for a profit no matter how large or small you wouldnt be able to re-invest the money in to multiple domains of similar quality and replicate would made the profit in the first place.

For example if i sold a name for $2000 and made a $1000 profit. I would take that $1000 profit and invest in similar quality domains and sell for more profit or same. Now do this over and over with in the time that you would have held the first domain in and see how much MORE money you can make vs the amount of profit you would have made if you sold that first domain for the price it would be selling for today.

As Rick Latona said about Dollars.com, "I still have tens of thousands of domains left. Iโ€™ll make far more money by the market continuing to rise than I ever could have made had I held on to Dollars.com for a bit longer."

Yeah, had to let a bunch drop several years ago when I was in a cash flow crunch... it was renew domains or pay the light bill, lol.

Now, had I been young and single, hehe, it might have been awfully dark around my house for a couple weeks back then!

Still hurts, though, especially one domain that I regret losing, it got picked up and the domainer has been sitting on it for 4 years now, for sale with an unreasonable amount on it.

Can't say the domain, though, maybe someday I can get it back.

I sold AffiliateMarketing.tv for a good amount last year, but I think I will regret that one as well, that could be a sweet domain in the years to come.

My first $xxx sale was for engrave (.) net, I put it on ebay back in '03 I believe with a $300 BIN and it was sold @ BIN in a matter of hours. I was like "hmmm that was suspiciously quick?! LOL

Hmm...a couple come to mind. I let drop thesmokingun.com back in 2001 I think. I was a typo squatter when I didn't even know what that was. I had actual real sites and I thought of typos getting traffic. I found a good one there and registered it back in the 90's. Parking wasn't around back then so for a few years I just redirected the site to my other sites. Eventually I didn't know what to do with it so I let it drop. A few years later I realized my obvious mistake. It had an ovt with extension of 300+ I think.

Here was the site I had up for a few years:

http://web.archive.org/web/20010223161032/http://www.thesmokingun.com/

My other big loss...well maybe i-pod.com. Yes another squat name. I had bought it for low $x,xxx and in the same week I sold it for mid $x,xxx. Nice flip but jeez...what's the value on that now?

I guess that's it for my "ones that got away" but overall I have sold some greats for solid profit so I ain't sweating it. I have yet to list a name on dnjournal but I could have done so numerous times if I wanted to report them. Maybe next sale I will just to say I was listed. :)

I was bidding on a really nice, pronouncable CVCV.com at Club Drop, before they changed to Namejet. During the last few hours I was the highest bidder but I had to leave for work. I had shown my wife and eldest son how to proceed in the bidding process should they need to make another bid. When I later called home I was greeted with the bad news that I had been outbid and the winning bid was only $620!!
Because I had left myself signed into the auction and there had been no activity on the site from my end, when they went to make the bid for me the darn thing logged off, and I hadn't left them my sign-in details!! :'(
That day taught me a lesson, always use a proxy bid when you are not going to be around for the finale.

yeah i totally agree.. i sold a lot triple repeating letters LLLL.com back then for very cheap but at least 5-10 times wat i paid for.looking at the price just after buyout i told myself why dint i hold it longer..but if i did i wud know have more LLLL.com regs in my portfolio..so in a way although i sold less but the cashflow in between both holding n selling wud be very diffrent...
