All TLDs now have paid private whois...

Yep that is correct. Yesterday for .org and .net there was no charge but now all Tlds have to pay.. I am not registering anymore domains with Name.com... If they have nothing to offer anymore then why use them. Fabulous and Godaddy will be cheaper now even at $8.99 with FREEWHOIS promotional code specially if you have large number of domains. They add up fast.

We’ve created a promo code called “FREEWHOIS” that will discount the current special pricing of $1.99 to $0.00, making this service free for the first year for orders using this promo code.

first year u can have free whois :D

Are they realizing that they will lose about 80% of their actual customers?

@CamMK27: Where have you read about $7.99? Looking at their blog, the price seems to be $1.99.
The regular price is listed as $7.99 on their shopping cart.

Personally, I don't think it would be all that bad if they charge $1.99 for whois privacy since it's around the same price that several other registrars charge (Moniker, Dynadot, and Namecheap after the free first year). It's just a little worrying to me that $1.99 is only considered a promotional price...

You know when you add the domains to the cart and where it says googla application ON/OFF and Whois ON/OFF that is where it showed $7.99 per regular and $1.99 promotional price.

Like I said if you have large portfolio and a domain discount club with Godaddy it can be cheaper to renew the domains there now after the $1.99 add on. Look at this way if you have over 2000 domains then that is extra $4000 per year for renewals and that DOES SUCK BIG TIME

This thread is going way off-topic. There has been discussed before here on NP how to create your own whois private privacy protection.
