Hey Guys Have you noticed a new pricing for Whois Privacy at Name.com? It is no more free. They are charging $1.99/yr as a special or 7.99/year regular. Since when did they start that? Does anyone know if it is only temp or will stay like this?

@CamMK27: Where have you read about $7.99? Looking at their blog, the price seems to be $1.99.

Wow, that sucks.

At least already registered domains will still get free private whois.

Name.com surprises, but now not in a good way...

Has to be re-done then, one by one, unless I'm wrong.

Only domains that had whois privacy set on 2 days ago, will keep it for 5 additional years after its coming expiration time, if renewed. All other domains that was set to "no" 2 days ago, have no whois privacy left, then it has to be paid for. :lala:

I think that is indeed very wrong because the domains were registered with whois privacy included in its cost, how can it then be removed after? What if Godaddy or any other registrar suddenly said, now whois privacy will cost more so if you don't pay the additional cost, then the whois privacy will not be available. People would get mad, but because this is good and kind Name.com who have had a great support and reputation (I hope that continues), I believe their users don't dare to complain as much.

They offer the FREEWHOIS promo to get free whois for a year, and you save 1.99 but then you won't be able to use the other registration promo at the same time.

However, as far as I have seen, they have not
informed their customers to do like this:

I tried to see what happen if it was possible to get a free whois on existing domains with the use of FREEWHOIS and yes. Then you get the privacy back, only until they either expire or are renewed. So if you register new domains with the ordinary registration promo, then after - in the account you would add the free one-year whois privacy with the privacy promo.

Also, the sister companies domainsite.com and name.net have changed and now look about the same as name.com. Well, they have been very cheap sometimes, 5.99. Wonder if there will more changes.:|

This really sucks. The only reason I registered domains at Name.com was because they offered free privacy on a single domain registration as well and also they would offer coupon to reduce the price to usually as low as $7.99.... Now if you have Godaddy discount domain club its much cheaper to register domains at GD with free whois privacy .. The only thing that sucks is you only get free privacy at the time of registration if you register 5 or more domains at a time..

Well, sooner or later they'll realize the kind of mistake they did. They were the ones who taught me not to pay for Private Whois.

I also don't think it's fair for those who already have purchased domains but had the feature turned OFF.

Name.com you're not any longer my favorite domain registrar. :lala:

Huge mistake they made. Sure its only $1.99 for privacy add-on, but there is nothing that they offer that makes them stand out anymore. They will get squashed by the "big guys". Bye name.com

FREEWHOIS for a free private whois......

p.s. maybe its for those extensions without free private whois.
