The "New" America & Eminent Domain...

Will it backfire on Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter? Justice Souter's vote in the "Kelo vs. City of New London" decision allows city governments to take land from one private owner and give it to another if the government will generate greater tax revenue or other economic benefits when the land is developed by the new owner.

A private developer now wants to use this law to build a hotel on Souter's land.. <snicker> <er, I mean, gosh, darn it!>

Personally, I'd love to move to Canada.. tho I know for a fact, they grouse about their politics too... I LOVE Toronto!

I know, I wouldn't really do it, but a lot of decisions by this government lately have started to scare me...

Ya, I live in Connecticut, and people are not happy about this decision at all. I personally completely disagree the Supreme Court. The government should not be able to take someone's land and then giving it to someone else who builds other houses on the property. Not fair at all IMO.

My family owned a large portion of land in downtown Rochester, NY when I was a kid... on part of this land was our family business, which supported not only our immediate family but parts of our extended family as well.

The city decided they wanted to "clean up" that portion of the city and annexed that portion of the land and we lost a good portion of our livelihood... sad part is, where our business stood was never developed after all (is an empty lot today) and that portion of the city is no better today than it was then.

So much for the effectiveness of "eminent domain"...

We are approaching an Eminent Domain situation here in the DFW area in regards to the new sports stadium and complex for the Dallas Cowboys being built. Some people are being forced to move from their houses and neighborhood, so the land can be used for the stadium project. They get paid the fair market value of their house plus moving expenses.

It's really disturbing to think about people forced to move; leave their homes and memories. And they didn't do anything wrong... except live in a neighborhood that was blocking what some consider 'progress'.

It's a sad, sad time for many. It surely is the end of the world as we've come to know it.

this is really a shame. I see absolutely no positives about this what-so-ever.

it's a dicotomy. Liberal judges acting on a Conservative watch, and the conservatives doing nothing.

goes to show... no matter which pile of shit you vote for... your still voting for a pile of shit.
