This will be a mild rant.

From time to time I hold auctions at eBay. Please don't hold that against me. The reason I felt the need to rant today, is because I recently held an auction, as I often do. This particular sale was for a 48 domain name package.

I had placed a reasonable reserve on the name because I started it off at $1 and didn't want to end up eating a loss that big if it didn't sell for more than that buck.

You can log into eBay right now and take a look at my feedback... I have an excellent repuation with outstanding feedback. I am very honest and dependable, and always do my best to accomodate my buyers.

So to get to the point. Right before this 48 domain name auction ends I get this message from another ebay member - see quote

ebay member
this is showing you are bidding on your own auction against ebat policy was interested, but since you are raising your own bids u shouls be reported it can be tracked u know.

I write back:
First of all, I would never shill bid on my own auction. I am a professional, and take my reputation very seriously. If you can't afford the auction, simply don't bid. There really is no need for a personal attack because you are feeling badly about yourself, and your financial incapabilities.

she's convinced:
that's so not true it shows u whether u know it or not a high bidder on this auction same name as your ebay name just thought you would like to know if I can see that others can to.

At this point I realize the level of intellect that I'm dealing with:
Please stop harassing me. You have no education, and I cannot be bothered by your ignorance. For the very last time... I did not bid on my auction. I had a reserve set. You better do a little research before you accuse people of things.

So that's the last thing that was said. I wasn't going to respond at all, but for some reason it really hit me the wrong way. If she writes me again, I think I will just report it to eBay.

Here is the link to the closed auction

If anyone can prove that I shill bid on that auction, I will give them all of my NP$ plus send them on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Drinks included!

Thanks for listening... please feel free to add or comment :xf.love:

I would have asked that person if they have common sense to do research before you accuse someone of something... I hate that ;)

Bah. There are idiots in every walk of life. Just let yourself be entertained by them and you'll actually look forward to hearing from them. Or maybe I'm just weird that way. But as one of my favorite quotes goes: "I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person".

You're right Gene. I should have just kept my mouth shut.

Idiots come and idiots go. I know exactly how you feel - I all too often happen to open my big mouth and say something but ultimately they're so wrapped up in their own ignorance (or desire to make themselves feel better). Honestly don't even stoop to their level by insulting them or saying things about them. If you're going to respond, kill them with niceness otherwise just let it go.

Obviously this user isn't professional enough to use proper capitalization and grammar so I truly doubt eBay would pay them much attention even if they reported it. More than likely it's someone out to cause trouble or someone trying to get a deal. Two seconds worth of research by an eBay tech would show you clearly weren't.

However, at the same time they aren't always best over at eBay. They removed a domain auction once because I two domains listed and a tech there said I had links to outside sites - which these definitely weren't links and they led to the registrar's placeholder page.

I just ignore messages like that. If you don't care about what they say you wouldn't have to respond.

My worst case ever: I got in a little confusion about a domain name about a year ago. I resolved it, me and the buyer were happy, so I decided to leave him a positive feedback, feeling it's common sense for him to do the same for me. Next day - BAM neg. left in my face. Since then I never leave a feedback before I get one from whoever I dealt with.

Luckily I've never gotten a neg on ebay tho I've come close a few times. Why? Because 99% of the bidders don't bother to read the auction description or look at the photos...

I just sold an item that worries me.. it's listed as slightly damaged. I had someone use BIN and pay via credit card. The bidder also has only 1 positive feedback for a purchase made in Oct 2004 (low feedback).

What worries me is the bidder will get the item and even tho the auction states the item is sold AS IS, he can do a chargeback thru his Credit Card. Hopefully this won't happen.
