You are right Dragon, we see so much endless debate about the absolute minimum price for garbage LLLL, but we don't have a system regarding top end sales, even if we did, we would be accused of "pumping" the niche, quite sad really.
When I started this thread, I felt we as domainers missed an understanding on how to price these kind of domains and therefore having an updated sales thread in my view was useful.
But what has come clear in this difficult 2009 (very difficult for me), is that despite everything the demand is there and does not take long to have again prices of a year ago once economic conditions improve.
Everyone has (I hope) his own startegy and arguing over a price if is right or not is silly.
The market makes the price for everything, its demand and offer, if it works for Gold, it works for LLLL.com as well. One day your gold can worth $1200 an ounce and the next month it can be worth $900.
But, if you think that next month gold goes up to $1,200 or $1500 then you buy at $900, that`s it.
If I see value in some domains , I sell at the price I feel is right, regardeless of what people say. If I`m desperate for the money then I have to meet market prices and sell at "bid" price.
How much would you price UNET.com ? according to all the BS we read about premium letters, some people came up with appraisal from 3 to mid 4 figures, yet it sold for $100,000. The Buyer apparently wanted it THAT badly.
You can have a domain with the ugliest letters and get a price 10 times better than someone who has one of the best name son the market. Why?
Because this is not a Bible, it`s not a stock market where prices can be mathematically calculated, this is a much more complicated market and given the fact each domain is unique, then it`s always demand and offer and more in details is the buyer making the price.
In my opinion Buyer makes 51 % of the market price. Seller has always less right to say in this because no one can be sure of anything till the price is paid.
What most of us, speculate on, is that some names have proven to have statistically more chances to be sold and to be sold at some price ranges. But that`s our data, our analys on thousands of sales that enables us to come to this conclusion.
Indeed if I go and ask to the UNET.com buyer which domain is more valuable between for example:
PEPE.com and BT.com , I won`t be surprised to hear PEPE.com
