The Lesson not Learned - Silly Registrant Owners..

Last year at this time, there was a domain name expiring at TDNAM. I wanted this domain name. But, within the last day, bidding shot up and the domain peaked at $600 +

I opted to call up the registrant owner to see if he would sell it to me cheaper than it was at TDNAM. Explained to him the process of redemption, ect. We agreed on a deal of about $250. However, someone else must have called him after I spoke and he countered my offer.

Long story short, the sale fell through due to unrealistic expectations of the registrant owner...

Today I find the same domain name is back at TDNAM, expired once again. It just made me laugh... Perhaps this time around it will slip through for much cheaper. <crossing fingers>

Let this be a lesson to you all... Dont forget to renew your domain names! Valueable ones you intend to keep or hold for a few years, make sure they are renewed through atleast 2009-2010. Dont let renewals sneak up on you!

that really is stupid
If I knew that one of my names received bids as high as $600, I would never let it drop, even for 10 years. If experienced domainers think its worth $600 in the expired names market, I'm pretty sure it would be worth a lot to an end user.

"If experienced domainers think its worth $600 in the expired names market"

You mean people with loaded pockets who pay enormous amount for names that can be obtained for much less in the regular market?

well, I respect Spade as a domainer. If he was willing to spend $250 to get a domain, I am led to believe that it was definitely worth it.

I can't count how many times I've contacted registrants for .ca's that are close to expiring/dropping and offer them up a decent amount of cash to which they refuse or counter with some stupid number only to see it expire and drop a month later.

It's great when you get them at regfee later!

$250 is a lot of money for a domain?

lol, $250 for a domain? Years ago, I got kicked out of Afternic becuase I put my NameDepot.com up for auction, and when the auction closed, bidding was at $2K. I refused to sell for that (low) price, and afternic kicked me out!

If you had 'no reserve', and didn't follow thru, you (or anyone) deserved to be kicked out. Very unprofessional!! A deal is a deal, and if one can't play by the rules that are in place at the time one enters it, they shouldn't be in, or playing the game!!. They are basically just weasels!!

(not a direct shot at you mark, as I don't know the details, but..)

Lol, $250 for a domain... ha ha hee hee ha ha. What's actually funny is that you've just caused every reseller on this thread to make a mental note with your name on it.

What purpose does it serve to boast about your past unethical behavior on a public forum? Telling everyone who's read or reading this thread that you were justifiably banned from Afternic is a poor decision IMHO.

Just what I was thinking, although mental notes aren't necessary. You could use the Personal Notepad in your CP. :hehe:
