Background on the free ipod referral deal:

You might have heard about these sites. The most popular gift, an Ipod, is offered by a site in exchange for a member signing up, completing an offer, and finding 5 other people to do the same. The offer involves a deal such as signing up to a free trial of Blockbuster's DVD by mail service. The offer is cancelable so it costs nothing to join. This concept is not a scam or a pyramid scheme, just the latest in internet viral marketing.

Numerous fan sites and message boards testify to the success of these sites. I myself have recently completed one of these sites and the gift of $275 is in my account now.

Message boards have often come together to form a conga line around one of these sites.

The concept:

The initiator lists himself and members also interested in the Ipod follow by signing up through the initiator's referral link. Once that person in line has satisfied the site requirements the direction of new inductees work on the second person in line.

I am starting a similar conga line here but I want to modify it to benefit more ppl.

- 5 offer completions are required for a free Ipod, however, in this conga line each member is allowed a maximum of 4. This is to encourage members to seek help off the board. (I completed another site by simply offering $5 to each person who signed up under me; worked like a charm)
- The forum currency system is an advantage none of the other forums have. When inductees start slowing then those at the top of the line can start offering $NP as encouragement to keep the line moving.

I would say the member receiving the referral would provide the NP$.

The process could be automated using NP$ escrow so when someone joins, the NP$ is put into escrow. The conga person verifies the referral and releases the NP$ to the new signup. The recipient is not added to the conga line, opting for the free NP$/domain instead.

I think RJ's suggestion is excellent. I think 500 NP $ might be a little high though. Maybe make it 200 NP $ as the minimum, but up to 500 if the person wants.

Good idea! Maybe you can do it so every referral costs the member receiving the referral 500NP$. If the referral joins the conga line, then the pot will just keep growing. Anyone in the conga line can opt to drop out of line and take the 500NP$ from the pot instead, which would help trim the line.

Well i guess that while i was gone today a lot happend...

I felt as if the people on namepros were my friends, atleast those I talk to. The other day, I felt so great about things on this forum that I gave away all of my NP$. I enjoyed happy peoples responses to the free NP$ that i sent them...and it really made me feel good about myself to do something kind. I was sure to let whoever posted know how much i appriciate them for being my "friend" and how much i really look up to all of you.

I offered insentives that were indeed too high... but didnt we origianally note we should not take things too seriously? While I was gone a lot did happen... Although "Lots" stated this thread was open for suggestions.. my suggestions did not go over well... RJ made it very clear that I am unwanted.

I guess sometimes life is taken too seriously...My friends... I think its best if I move on. I may take a break from namepros as it seems I am doing more harm then good. I am sorry for any harm I have caused in the time I have shared with all of you.

Regardless, the bottom line seems this thread is kapoots! So, I think we should restart the thread with everyone where they are now and see if we can't get this project back on positive ground! :tu:

I think it might be even easier if RJ are Armstrong made a thread, and then locked it. And then you had to pm then, and they updated the list. That way the thread would be very clean, and easy to follow.

what I mean is like: I completed the blockbuster offer. I had someone else under me do blockbuster as well. Now I have another person trying to do it, but it doesnt show up for him?

Also, what other ones are free besides blockbuster?
