The whole thing is sickening. Anyone believe that he wasn't after this cat? Or that his guides didn't recognize the "famous" lion? He poached illegally before (a bear), lied about it and got a slap on the wrist for it. And let's not forget the sexual harrassment lawsuit from a former employee...nice guy.
Saddest part is that killing Cecil affects his whole family. His cubs will probably be killed by another male (very "Game of Thrones" in the lion world), and Jericho, the lion that sort of "co-owned" the pride may not be able to defend it on his own and will be driven away by other males.
There's a petition online to try to save the cubs - http://www.thepetitionsite.com/437/704/490/save-zimbabwes-lion-cecil-cubs/ -, but I think the issue is money and logistics - can't be cheap or easy to rescue and relocate them. That is, assuming some of them are still alive ...
I can't imagine that guy resuming his dental practice after this ...He's probably got his patients' teeth in a jar somewhere too... I hope they are legally able to extradite and throw the book at him and that he spends a long time rotting in an African jail. Though more poetic justice would be to ship him to a group of extremists who do to humans what he did to that poor lion .
