Hi everyone

Ive been away for a while and I have just started posting again, and im tossing up whether another ebay bash is worth it.

A while ago I sold a few domains on ebay, started around 20 auctions on there, complete with what i thought was a convincing sales pitch, while trying to keep it relatively brief. I had a full outline of the procedures for transfer for those new to domain trading, or end users.

I started them all at $15, no reserve.

Out of the 20, I shifted 4, 3 of which went for the starting price of $15 and another that went a bit beyond that...cant remember how much. (It was a couple months ago).

They were all basic listings, bolded and in the correct category. I did get a few enquires on top of the sales i made, but i didnt shift as many domains as I had hoped.

What do NP'ers think of ebay in particular? The four domains i shifted didnt cover much above listing cost...factor in registration cost and i barely broke even. Is this a typical experience for other domain traders listing on ebay?.

If anyone has certain techniques or insights they would like to share with me, and the larger community, on how you can improve your turnover on ebay, I would really appreciate it. Im sure this territory has been covered many times...but surprisingly a quick search didnt reveal a great deal...

Should I have another go?

Help me decide..

Cheers,
Matt

I as well haven't had much luck on ebay. My names just aren't the type to be bid up upon- they need unique buyers.

From the many comments i've heard about sellers on ebay, domains dont sell well there. I think it's because it's more commercial and the majority of it's custom comes from home shoppers and bargain hunters, not exactly domainers.

I think due to lowballer buying trend on ebay,And the fees associated with selling a name there,I really think once is all done it isn't worth it imo.

It really depends on the quality of the domain you're selling! If you have premium domains (one word/generic names) associated with a product + 3 or 2 letter domains, it would be the place to generate interest and publicity.

I think invention.com was recently sold on ebay for over $600K

You will still need to contact potential buyers and make them aware of the auction along with sending them your ebay auction link.

Unfortunately, selling other domains that don't fall within above criteria, most of the time, it's dificult to meet the seller's expectations.

They are always exceptions, like selling quality "combo" domains ie: HomeMortgage.com CameraPhone.com ; VisitCalifornia.com ; AutoLoan; ...etc.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks

That's the worst advice I've heard in a long time. If you do your homework and learn what type of domains people are buying on Ebay, you can do extremely well.

apparently this bit of "wisdom" is coming from somone that doesn't understand how to sell domains on eBay.

i've sold 2 lots of domains on ebay for more than i could sell them on NP.

Hi guys, ive chosen to list a few on ebay, lets see how they fair. Ive got 3 bids already on roughly 20 odd listings..

I think next time i might contentrate my focus a little bit, just do 1 a day, but really work on the text.

When its all said and done though, domain names sell themselves, a buyer either likes it the minute they see it, or they dont - no amount of sales talk seems to change the matter...unlike some other areas of business.

I have no luck at Ebay. The last 2 domains I listed there got around 20 visites each in 5 days. Guess, that was my fault because I didn't want to pay a fortune for a fancy listing layout.

I think 2 things work well for ebay listings in general:

Make sure you put NR (or No Reserve) in the title,
Bolding is worth it..yes its 1.00 but i think it really helps.

Also if you list a number of auctions, do them all at once. Its easier for a buyer to read when he/she see's a nice, consistant chunk of bolded listings.

how do you list them? Do people bid on one domain or a list of domains?

You just list them like any other item on ebay. Have to make sure its in the appropriate category, for .coms thats category 11153 for example. You can either post a single domain or a heap of domains in a single listing..and thats not necessarily a bad idea...saves on fees, but beware your unlikely to get as much for them in bulk as you would seperately.
