Hey everybody

Just curious what everybody feels is the best alternative to registering an exact match domain name.

If you couldn't find the exact match available, what is your immediate, next best option?

Ie... "e+DomainName".... or... "DomainName+360".... "DomainName+Solutions".... Etc

Thanks... This should be good to see all your answers

Is this excluding EMD hyphenated domains?

Despite googles EMD hack and slash I still have done pretty well developing EMD's with hyphens and ranking them.

If it is excluding them then I typically tag pro, source, on the end of it. I don't like numbers in my names but I'm weird like that.

I'd get it with a hyphen or in another extension if possible. If neither then i'd go with a brandable keyword.

thanks STP and Adam for your replies

to fine tune my original question:

โ€ข Absolutely NO other extensions allowed - this is for dot com only.

โ€ข Hyphens are also not allowed

โ€ข This name would be for resale only

* i don't have any name in mind
this is just something i have been wanting to poll.

i disagree that they are devalued.
"Content is King"

Pair up the proper content with the proper domain and the sky's the limit.

The only adjustment big G really made to EMD's was to web sites/pages with little or no content... meaning, it's no longer a 'right of passage' that you will get page one ranking's with your EMD...

if you pay attention to many of your searches, you will still see EMD's running page one - the only difference now is all of these sites, are actual sites and businesses - not mini sites whose only purpose was to attain rank.

i disagree that they are devalued.

And you're absolutely right. To quote Matt Cutts:

"Minor weather report: small upcoming Google algo change will reduce low-quality "exact-match" domains in search results."

There is still value and always will be as some business/organisation names are EMDs.

With regards to your original question (and you're really limiting the options) if the EMD wasn't available in .com then move on. Well, you might be able to add something worthwhile such as "guide" (e.g. if lakedistrict.com is unavailable then you could have lakedistrictguide.com). Stuff like eWhatever.com, Whatever360.com, etc, just come across as low quality.
