What do you think the .ASIA extension is going? I find that few forums are really paying attention to it. Most information on the Web is from 2008. What do you think?

Well there is an interesting article on idnblog.com from the 2nd of November relating to comments made by the CEO of Google as quoted below.

Now if he's anyone to go by, i would say that .asia has some further potential.

Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google, ruffled some feathers this past week when he said that five years from now the Internet will be dominated by Chinese-language content (see link).

How could this be? Well, China’s population is over 1.3 billion, and the country’s Internet penetration is increasing. There are 338 million Internet users in China, which is larger than the entire official US population, which is estimated at a little over 307 million.

What does this mean? Given the number of Chinese Internet users, there will be an ever increasing amount of Chinese content on the web. Moreover, the Chinese IDN market will be huge once Chinese Internet users grow accustomed to ICANN’s new IDN friendly stance. The lurking spoiler could be the censorship-happy Chinese government, which could further regulate dot CN names, and the country’s Internet as a whole, at the drop of a hat.

Thanks. I noticed that it is still possible to register popular dictionary words.

Don't do it, they will probably go down even more in value because of IPv6.

IPv6 will let chinese and other asian people have chinese countrycode letters instead of .com or as now .cn

The chinese government is allready supporting it and will have all their websites ending with a chinese letter.

IPv6 has nothing to do with domain names.

Guys, dont park all your .asia Domains , make little minisites on it, work with them and .Asia gets more attention.
i made some .asia sites, look at my signature, for example.
and i get traffic and clicks, try it

...or lower your expectations and sell them to the ones who'd develop thus contributing to .asia development.

btw I don't see any activity around .asia at all, seems things are so hopelessly quiet.. i might be misinformed though..

biggestloserclub.asia is developed but i wonder if it will bring in .asia hype..

I thought it was a joke. Biggestloserclub.asia.
Someone went to alot to develop it and it looks really professional.

But then again the name doesn't sound that attractive. But its even better than the .com version and has the trademark of well known companies on it. WOW. Such strange thing.

.asia right now has some good hype for the new entry and availability of the dictionary phrase domain names, but i really don't think it would be big hit as there are already .in, .co.in, .jp, .cn, for every big country where targeted traffic is already being directed, and bringing .asia into the competition now won't be that effective.
Still, as any new extension is released there is some hype and use for a considerable time.
