I rarely use privacy when registering domains but I might have to start. My phone, texting and everything wont stop. Anyone have any suggestions of how they handle this?

I use my google voice number for my whois information but I don't use it connected to my cellphone. I go to the google voice panel maybe twice a week to see who has called me. I also have transcript enabled to see what the voice mails are about so that I don't waste time listening to them.

I too ( like everyone else I suppose ) have received and am still receiving a ton of spam emails and they ALL are from India.
What I have noticed though is that it does not depend on the registrar but from the location in the world you input in your whois. I get 100% spam when I put in my Aussie address, I get 0% with my Italian one.
They must have scrapers set on certain locations.

OP I feel your frustration I recently hand regd a few domains which I hadn't done in a while at godaddy with no privacy and boy do I regret it.

The sheer volume of email spam alone is outrageous. From logo design, to domain registration notices, phishing etc. I am spending so much time deleting these emails day after day I think i'm going to have to go with domain privacy for new regs in future. It never used to be this bad but in all seriousness time is money and i'm losing too much of it deleting this junk and I haven't even started with phone spam.

I wish I could block these idiots but unfortunately they know how to cover their backs and spam you to insanity. Scum!

I have an old mobile with a couple of pounds of credit on the SIM card. I use that as my contact in the whois info. It's turned off most of the time.

Well, for our last 50 or so regs we " went private " re public details.

And, not a peep out of our phone re anything to do with those domains.

Likely will move the majority of our older domains to privacy - too much recent uptick in calls, emails etc from the spam dwellers.
Never seen so much. I will be moving to privacy I believe. Could it be the registrars pushing privacy? :)

I know many here do not agree, but I use privacy on most of my domains.

But I also use landing pages for all so if they are really interested most will type in the name and go to the landing page anyway.

They get pay to do what they suppose to do so we need to be polite with them.
If they call just start asking questions:
- What is you name
- What is your phone number
- Your address
- Your social security number
- keep going until they hang up

Or if you don't want to talk then ask them:
- Would you mind to hold?

and keep them on hold until they hang up.

Good point!

I use privacy only on some domains, mostly if it´s free with the registry (not renewing after one year of free privacy)

Too bad registrars don't give free privacy and forward inquiries to the registrant. :)

I just understood your point, sorry for being slow.
Not sure if it was tongue in cheek but i'm guessing it may have been?

It actually would not surprise me if Godaddy are behind this, they are the upsell kings, auto adding extra years of regs etc. I'm also saying this kind of tongue in cheek but let's face it they do have plenty to gain from forcing us into privacy, privacy costs us at Godaddy. Are they paying these Indian spammers lol?

BTW most of my domains are at godaddy. Do others still experience this relentless wave of phone/text/email spam from other registrars like enom etc. or is it just godaddy?

I can delete the emails but the calling and now texting is too much.

I 100% agree... I don't want to put a privacy filter on my domains due to possible inbound opportunities, but I might have to, these calls (95% if not all of my calls come from India) are getting ridicoulus. I may have to start being deceitful in my contact info.

Yeah i hear you!

Own some domains for 10+ years with full whois transparency.. never got any calls (maybe 1 or two emails a year)

Now since registered at NP and bought some domains.. it seems to be an unstoppable wave of emails floating my inbox. Luckily not that much calls and no text till now.

In the future, guess i will go with @Kuffy ´s advice and get some iddle phone for regs
