Hi,

We own telematics dot com. A massive billion dollar industry and growing fast. It was registered in 1989. We are wondering what sort of money it is worth and any opinions on it

Thanks

Not a bad name,I'd say somewhere around mid $xx,xxx.Probably more if we look at the age of the domain,it could be a number close to the six figure mark.
That was an early registration,no doubt about it.I think the oldest domain was registered back in 1985.

Awesome domain with a very high ceiling.
To the right buyer who knows what it could sell for.

Telematics dot com is top notch. Taken in all tld's and many cctld's. Part of the string in many domain names also.

A category killer domain in a huge industry. Covers a wide wide range of technology and products and increasing each year. Most people know mainly of GPS but there are many other tech uses that fall under the telematics umbrella.

I think that both hurts and helps the domain, so it's difficult to narrow down a value for it. Practically everyone in the civilized world knows the term GPS, for example, but ask how many people know the word telematics. My friends and family don't. I never hear the word, other than seeing it on this forum. Telematics gets under 15,000 exact monthly searches on Goog, while better-known terms get much more - for example, GPS gets almost 700,000 monthly searches.

However, as even laypersons become more accustomed to tech terms, then tech terms become more mainstream. The right news article in a popular magazine or tv show, and telematics could become a more mainstream term.

I think an absolute minimum for your domain, on a bad selling day, would be $50K. But that's really undervaluing it, simply because it's not much of a mainstream word yet.

The industry built around this term, even if they don't use this term commonly yet, is huge, and if any of them want to take this name and run, a fair price should be easily in the low 6 figures. If they want it badly and there's more than one interested in buying, these are large corporations and who knows how high the bidding could go?

Couple questions: on an important domain like this, why is it just sitting there, the nameservers don't resolve to any page? You should at least have a few dozen pages of original content and some ads on there; how long have you had it and what have you been doing with it? - or is this a fresh buy for you?

Good luck, stellar name

:)

Excellent! Just would be wrong to try put a top number on it.

Telematics: Refers to the broad industry related to using computers in concert with telecommunications systems

There isnt any found history of this name selling in the past nor the dot net. I could quote what the info sold for but then I will be ridiculed for even mentioning it. Plus there really no history of keyword+Telematics sales to point a path. What we are left with is the knowleged that its a definitive category domain with multiple company enduser that would be bid it up at least mid xxxxx

Goodluck

I doubt your kidney is worth that much..

I think the fact that someone tried to start a niche thread:

http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/786474-telematics.html

Says something. Obviously not as popular as Clouds or Pot :)

Telematics is unique in the sense that it is a "subject area" but could also work as a product line name, pure and simple, for some of the big hitters. Someone like Cisco etc. (not saying they would, but they could)

Telematics .com
You have a gem here for sure register for 24 years already.
The value is around high $xx,xxx to mid $xxx, xxx but of course a end user will
pay more the sky is the limit on this one.

Good Luck :)

Looks like Telematic.com sold for $15K back in 2011.

Obviously the plural is far superior in terms of use and value.

I feel low $xx,xxx would be a good starting point with this one.

It all depends on what end-user takes a bite of the bait.

Thanks Everyone

Really appreciate the input and the time people took to look into it. I agree with 99% of the valuations and think it is a good space to be in.

To answer the questions, it is a new purchase yes. I will be putting up an informational site asap. I was not sure how to develop it without devaluing it as the niche is broad so an info site should be the best way i think.

If anyone has any other ideas i would love to hear them

Thx

No, I think putting up a some broad generic info on this domain is definitely the way to go, without a doubt?
