I think the .tech gTLD is pretty cool, how about the .technology, how do you think it compares?

Tech could mean anything that starts with... tech obviously, like:
  • technology
  • technique
  • technicality
  • technical
  • technician
  • technophobe
  • ..you get the picture
But I think most people understand "tech" as the short form of "technology", and if used cleverly, would make great domain names.. what do ya'll think? opinions and comments welcomed!

Welcome to the wonderful world of new extensions, redundant and designed to confuse and squeeze more money from registrants and TM holders :guilty:
What's going to happen here, some end users will feel compelled to register both just to cover bases. Then, maybe later, Icann might release .technologies or something close enough. Again, end users will need to consider proactive purchases, because they obviously don't want competitors or squatters. This could involve taking part in expensive sunrise schemes to secure more domain names.
The best decision could be to simply avoid the dilemma and register something else :)

This thread is a revealing example of confusion, and it's not the only one.

Same applies to .coms, .nets, .orgs and .co's especially. If you not with it that is fine. It's the pioneers in the industry that grabbed the market by the balls early on in the game. Than there are skeptics that play it safe. Are those people well known? Don't think so.

It all dependons on what your gut instinct says and what type of personality you are.

It depends on the domain name (domainname.extension). if it's something like creaturetechnology ,which actually exists, then you better go with creature.technology as it's your brand name. However if you want to make something short and sweet or if you have tech postfix at the end of your brand, then it's better go with .tech. Short doesn't mean it's always better, then sites like stackoverflow wouldn't be popular.

The shorter name is much more appealing. What if .com had a competitor .communication . No way it would be used.

.tech has being out qualifying .technology by far in registration numbers.

Funny,

I like .TECH better than .TECHNOLOGY

but .PHOTOGRAPHY better than .PHOTO

...and .PHOTO better than .PICS

Summarized below difference between .tech and .technology:

.technology is used specifically and .tech is used more broadly.
.tech is shorter TLD than . technology
.tech is having public appeal

So .tech wins the race. But .technology may appeal to engineers/scientists.
