How accurate is the traffic estimation on TDNAM?

It says

The traffic data is provided AS IS and for informational purposes only. The traffic data reflects internally calculated data and does not represent a guarantee of continued traffic in any way.

So just thought I'd ask.

From my experiences...Be wary, be vary wary. You can find the occasional one but many many of them are nowhere accurate (or completely fabricated).

How do they calculate traffic? I guess you have to be using godaddy's nameservers?

The data comes from direct measurement by Godaddy.

However, there is no guarantee that the traffic will continue after purchase. As someone pointed out, the origin of traffic would be an invaluable addition to the information provided.

Unless the domain is a pure type-in generic or typo, the traffic will probably decline over time, usually sooner rather than later.

You'll get results all over the place.
In general, however, if GoDaddy reports that the traffic will be weak, it will be.
If GoDaddy reports numerous hits/uniques, you'll be rolling the dice as to the source and quality of this traffic. (Remote image calls used to be included in their #'s, not sure if they still are.)

If domain is expired at godaddy there are some factors that causes miscalculation.

1. since domain was expiring, there might be some traffic from other domainers and so, day*30 it might increase monthly traffic alot. Also if domain is expiring and doesn't have much value, some owners just offer it and if nobody buy, then they let them expire. But domainers were there and increase traffic.

2. previous owner might have bought some cheap TGP traffic or spam some boards. This happens if somebody is selling domain to increase it's value.

3. We don't know if they count bots, it they come, it might get monthly value +100 or so.

4. All domains got estimates, but barely any is parked at sucking cashparking (my sig offers better :D). They don't have HW resources to check all domains traffic. They probably just multiply first day of cashparking * 30. And imagine +100 monthly by bots as it might have been counted and multiplied by 30.

5. We know godaddy got cheap domains but they are quite fishy (locking domains upon spam report, and many other stuff).
I find ex-TDNAM very good opportunity for godaddy to make nice cash from expired ones so why wouldn't they increase the traffic to get higher bids? Anybody will do this.

In %90 of your purchases, you will get lower traffic than half of the traffic they estimated.

Probably dumb luck, but I've bought a few domains on TDNAM that were listed at zero traffic that did in fact receive some moderate traffic.

Total crap shot

Their estimates are way off plus one of my most recent picks up ending up getting 200 a day and they said it would have zero.

If you don't buy expired traffic and only generic traffic the numbers are much more accurate as a whole.
