Still in escrow.

Really cool domain.

I'd bet on Google's being the new owner.

That went very cheap! It's a superpremium name and a short one!

Great deal for the buyer...

Far too little for this domain considering talk is not cheap.

Everybody says it's 'too cheap';
If it's too cheap, then buy it yourselves.

I think it's a fair price. The market of buyers/sellers, at this moment in time, dictate what the fair market value is.

Not more, or less.

Amazing portfolio. They were the ones who got outbid on Toys.com

The seller of this could have got much more, especially from that group.

Not everyone has an extra $500K laying around.

If there is a house on the beach in California worth $5M and it is selling for $500K. It is a great deal, but not everyone has the resources to buy it.

Hi guys,

I'm looking for your gut feel. How does Talk.com compare to Links.com in terms of value. They seem to be close. Estibot seems to think Links.com should be valued more. Thanks for your input.

BTW, I think that it is a poor time to sell a good domain name. I would have waited a bit longer before letting go of talk.com. I think the potential for the right end user is quite decent. But if a quick sale was required, it is probably a fair deal.

I see Talk.com as a 7-figure domain but Links.com as worth mid 6-figures, tops. The #1 enduser client that comes to mind when I hear Talk.com is a telecommunications provider, #2 being a web 2.0-style social networking service. But I can't see Links as becoming anything more than a glorified link portal, and portals are a beast to monetize.

An indicator to this effect: The most obvious sibling of Links.com -- Directory.com -- is undeveloped, whereas the most obvious relative of Talk.com -- Chat.com -- is owned by CNET. Talk.com is a far more pragmatic purchase from a corporate perspective.

I love how folks toss off a half million dollars as 'cheap'....:)

$500,000 is never small bickies - for anything.

....This sale will only look 'cheap' if the new owners create more value than that, by what they successfully do with the name - or - if they find a buyer one day that will pay more for it.....Neither of which is absolutely certain in todays' world.

All business is risk (just ask the owners of the business & name of Business.com!!)....If you've got these sorts of funds, this price for this name is probably a fair roll of the dice....But, only the future will tell if this was a cheap price to pay, or not.

The bottom line is for $500K you could not replace a domain like Talk.com

You could probably not buy a domain of that quality for $1M. For a domain of that quality, it was cheap.

Just because $500,000 is a lot of money doesn't mean this domain didn't go cheap. Talk.com should have been mid millions. I just wonder how many phone companies knew about this sale. I bet ATT would have loved to have had their paws on this one for $500k.

If Candy sold for 3 million last month, Talk is for sure worth at least double that.

I don't think this name was sold in a public forum (ie by auction). So to say a private sale like this is obviously a "fair price" because that is what it sold for is a bit of a stretch. One buyer does not dicate a market, it takes numerous buyers for a market to exist. I don't think we have yet seen what the market really thinks of talk.com.

That sounds like a post at the other end of the spectrum. In truth ATT probably don't give a toss about the name and candy.com was probably more of an outlier sale than anything. You can't judge a market by only look at the high points.

Would say around $100k for links.com, talk.com is substantially higher quality, links.com is very broad, it sounds like a trophy name more than anything.

Just my 2 cents

And the PPC/Sale profits of these 2 can be compared equally too?

We all know search is only one aspect of value. Talk would be a great all-in-one place for phones, plans, accessories, or whatever else they're selling. Also, as Shane said phone service is an extremely valuable niche. Perhaps the most valuable.

I think Chat.com has more potential on the internet, due to how popular chat rooms and chat software is.
Talk.com is a great name, but as the above poster mentioned it's not searched as much.

BTW, ta1k.com is available if anyone wants to register it. The 1 looks like a stand up microphone, and would work great in a logo. Also it wouldn't cost you 500k, lol.

Thanks snoop. FYI, I have been offered much more than that, but I understand where you are coming from. Thanks for your insights.
