Table cell problems after slicing...

Hello, I am designing a site's layout using photoshop and then slicing it up and exporting to dreamweaver. It is a complicated site layout wise (there are 3 expanding columns). I am having trouble with the tables automatically resizing themselves after a column is expanded with text or content. Is there a way to make it so that certain table cells have a fixed size which wont change and have one cell which will expanded when needed. I tried setting specific hieght properties on the cells which i dont want to expand, however, they still expand sometimes. Does anyone know what my problem might be? thank you

The taller column will always pull the other one down with it. The wider row will always pull the other row across with it.

There are two ways to get around this. You could create three seperate tables with one column each, or create extra cells in the existing table.

Make three colums and add an extra cell to the ones that should stay the same. Then give the expanding column a rowspan of 2. <td rowspan="2"> Then specify all the heights, the extra cells should expand with the expanding column, while the other cells will stay the same.

If you didn't understand that I'll make an example for you.

Sometimes surrounding the entire table structure in another table and fixing that 2nd table's width and height keeps things in place. This has worked for me in the past, though not every single time. And it has the disadvantage of added complexity (you know, Ockam's razor and all...).

I've also found that Front Page's table creation tools are far better than Dreamweaver's (maybe that's changed with recent versions of Dreamweaver, though). I used to make tables in Front page and copy the code into Dreamweaver. I found I had fewer headaches this way.

html code provided by photoshop simply sucks. Try coding all of it by hand
