Surprising Observation

Fellows just for sake of information i am going to ask something which is important for me. The forum has a good number of Alexa Rank and Domain Authority but when i check the PR of the forum....I found 0. I need you to comment upon these figures.

Not sure I understand the question? Is this for a forum you are interested in buying, or for this forum, or...

Talking about things in general there is nothing weird or surprising about such numbers. They represent different metric methods and is up to the site owners on which ones they want to boost. For example PageRank - many people (me included) believe that this metric is no longer relevant and becomes more and more neglected even by Google themselves. Even though there was a December PR update it was more of an unintended one and doing all you can to achieve a high PR seems a little like efforts in vain atm.

Its more or less similar with Alexa Rank - its a somewhat useless metric, as it is based on stats from users with the Alexa Toolbar installed. Moreover changes depend on the overall movement of websites with similar Alexa Rank. So it can very easily be influenced, especially for newer websites.

Domain Authority is something I do still support as it is based on clear and independent factors. It measures the strength of websites in search engines and has clear bases as to how this is done.

So back to the question at hand, those metrics should not stun you in any way, there are lots of similar examples out there

A lot of spammy links can give you high DA because it doesn't take spam into account. However Google does, so that's one way you can end up with a high DA with a low PR.

Alexa is useless.

Is the page rank still monitored/valued any more?
Any site I've been to is showing 0/10 - including this one.

It's still being updated. My sites are still showing up. Don't know why NP is returning a 0... the site has thousands of backlinks, gained a LOT of links last April-June, lost quite a few Oct-Dec...

A Certain Other Domain Forum is showing up as a PR5 (and they have a lot of nasty, spammy anchor text pointing at them - like someone deliberately tried to knock them down !).

Benefit to it showing up as 0: discourages spammers.

PR has about as much value as it ever did. It's a reflection of backlinks and backlinks only. Toolbar PR is a snapshot which could be months out of date, real (internal to Google) PR updates constantly.

enlytend you got the point. In my views the moderation level of NP is quite excellent. They delete much more posts without thinking that they would loose inbound links in shape of the signatures of the posters. I have also observed that majestic shows 16k external back links of NP. Do you think they are not enough to uplift the PR of the forum?

My ahrefs pro account shows 183K backlinks from 4.9K different referring domains. (ahrefs has a much bigger index than majestic or OSE)

Google is probably ignoring some of those backlinks, but not enough to account for a PR0.

It may be a "glitch" ... t from a quick look, the link profile looks pretty normal.The only thing the least bit suspicious I saw was a big increase in link volume about a year ago. Regardless, its still top 3 for a bunch of relevant keywords. It looks to me like Google still thinks pretty highly of this site .

Comparing the link profile to the Other Domain Forum I mentioned - which has 215K backlinks from 4.1K referring domains ... and 6% of the incoming anchor text is the generic form of V**gra. (And another 1% is for payday loans.) A much spammier link profile (looks like someone tried to neg. seo the site) and hasn't affected that site.

Update:

Aha! I just noticed NP is redirecting everything to https. It looks like some toolbar page rank checkers aren't working right on https pages. Or maybe there's an issue with the redirection. Technical glitch somewhere - case closed !.
