I think you should take a look at some very well designed websites and templates, and learn from them.

Definitely w3SChools.com and Good-Tutorials.com would be a good start.

Go to your local neighbourhood library and check out the books.

im a designer, and i need inspirations.
I sit at starbux for a few hours, with a paper n pencil in hand.

i carry around a notebook with me and i'll note down any ideas that comes to my mind immediately, because you tend to forget bout it when you get home.

Hope it helps.

Oh, and coffee helps too. ;)

I started out just messing around with sites like Geocities. Then eventually I branched out to coding the sites. I learned sites like www.funky-chickens.com to learn HTML. The first step is to learn the basics of HTML, Hyper Text Markup Language. This is the primary language that websites use for coding. It is the base of web design. Find some sites where you can learn HTML tutorials and start designing your first basic sites with code.

You can use Anglefire or you can use Geocities, both of which are free, and do either WYSIWYG, What You See Is What You Get (visual design), or you can code. The only disadvantage is you will have ads popup everytime and you are limited to what you can do. But for a start of web design and HTML that is perfect. All you need is a Yahoo or Lycos ID to start.

Hope This Helps,

w3SChools.com, phpbuddy.com and Good-Tutorials.com start with these sites and would be a good start because here you can find ready sample programs. Because of this sample programs you would understand the programming skills in better way.

Just be sure to keep a good supply of BC Powder near by because you will need them....lol Don't expect to this for a living because these youngsters have saturated the market with a quick buck sell.....but heck they can keep it I just do it for fun with the occasional actual customer from time to time. Don't know any good tutorials but just diving into code is the way to go. Find a site you like and play with its code.....I guarantee after a cpl of weeks of modifying the source code you would of learned more HTML/CSS then you could ever learn from some online tutorial.

I started a karate site for my dojo 4 years ago. Was just a young woman who wanted to make something out of nothing (a site without knowing how). I used a template from front page :D

In few months I started learning some more, opened a forum and the little by little opened more sites with different topics. I never took one lesson, all I know is from my work and advice I found on the internet.

My solution: thousands of hours of work, dedication and a lot of stubborness :D
