Sudden rise in three letter .coms.

Is it just me or is there really a sudden increase in three letter .coms.

At Sedo now 8 three letter .coms which are all eight nothing special and all low google and overture results, here are the prices so far:

jvb.com: $10,000
bdz.com: $8,101
hxs.com: $6,150
yhh.com: $6,001
xbb.com: $6,101
lqk.com: $5,600
cxv.com: $4,201 (3 days and 18 hours left)
uwl.com: $4,201 (5 days and 4 hours left)

Still days left in the auction so probably they can even go higher.

A couple of months ago you could easily buy a three letter .com for under $4,000 as now it looks like there is none available under $5,000 or is it already under $6,000 :)

John.

I think it depends. I've found LLL.com's on the cheap recently.

Makes me feel good about the one I have in my possession now, as well, as I'm currently selling HGX.com.

Johntv (and all),

I've observed the same trends. The market for LLL.com's has gone wild recently and sedo seems to be leading the way (in strong sales volume and valuation). Even on the reseller side, sales on the forums have been quite strong, with many high $x,xxx and low $xx,xxx sales (and for combos without all premium letters).

LLL.com domains are rare to begin with, and many are already in end-user hands. Further, what seems to be most fueling the rise is high demand for LLL.com domains. A few high profile recent sales certainly hasn't hurt also (such as bcf.com for high $xx,xxx, amt.com for $100k and ihl.com for $207.5k).

LLL.com domains are argueably the most stable investment category in domaining. With a continually growing demand and lesser available supply (end-user effect), higher and higher prices should not be surprising in the future.

Great thread,
:) zesty

John,

no question this is the case. This last past week I have recieved 4 inquiries via email on my LLL.com - none of these inquiries were due to postings on forums (all via whois contact info).

Ive been following the sales patterns for these names for sometime. We released a report that suggested the wholesale pricing of an LLL.com to actually be closer to $4,200 dollars as a bottom figure. Infact, only 2 domains have sold for less than 4k in the last 2 months (that are publicly reported!)...

I think as domains recieve more and more attention (IE the Business 2.0 article about Kevin Ham) more domainers will come into the market, making these names even more scarce to come by. I was tryng to sell mine, but now I may sit a while and let the market develop even further....

Zesty and Justin, thanks, I also have a few and was thinking of putting one up at Sedo to benefit from the "hype", but now I will just keep them, no hurry :)
