Sub domains?

I'm kinda a newbie to the domain/web game, and am starting a site that has links to hosting and domain registration/sales.

My question is this. Would it be better to have sub domains or just use folder extensions?

For example, I would like to distinguish between the domain and the hosting sections of my site. Whats your opinion?

www.mysite.com/domains
www.domains.mysite.com

www.mysite.com/hosting
www.hosting.mysite.com

(These are just examples, and not real links!)

subdomains have a somewhat more professional look to them in my opinion.

That was my theory too.. I guess I just needed to hear someone else say it!

I think that subdomains work best because they easily categorize certain parts of a website like downloads.yourwebsite.com for like downloads or like order.yourwebsite.com for a checkout cart or something.
