New to SEO !!

Hello SEO pros. I'm an SEO noobee who is going to have a thousand questions in the coming year. I've been domaining for 8-10 years and it's time to make a move over to some monetization (I'm not a very good domainer ... just stubborn).

I have 300 names parked, a few with content, and I'm sure I'll need a pile of help when I get moving.

I see that we have three moderators :) I'm not sure how to take that. Do you all get wild and crazy over here ??? I guess I'll find out.

I hope you guys will put up with me and help to keep me on track.

Take care,
Charles Lowe

I dont post much about SEO but own my own firm and know a thing or 2. Just start posting and I am sure you will get a lot of different answers LOL

There are multiple moderators because this section attracts all the spammers.

Nice! A friend just lost her big ole Lab and her Estrela Mountain Dog straight from Portugal. Way too sad for me.

Thanks for your input !!
Charles

Thought I'd merge your two threads.

Welcome to the SEO section of the site, have a read around and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Remember that there isn't always a right answer when it comes to SEO, but there are certainly a lot of wrong ones.

;)

:(. The dog on that fundraising page is mine. As of this month, he's a 5 year cancer survivor (original prognosis, about 9 -18 mos.), going on 15 yrs old We've been incredibly lucky. It's not my site and they're not a client, just a good organization that funds promising research. Thanks for noticing!

Bringing this back on-topic :) (I AM a moderator, after all) - most of the spam we get is done to drop keyword loaded backlinks in the signatures. Once upon a time, that worked. But since last year's Google Penguin updates and "unnatural links" warnings, lots of low-quality keyword-stuffed backlinks are more likely to hurt a site than help it.

When I say "low quality", that's how Google views them. Even if they're from a "good" forum like NP, forum signature links are a total no-brainer to get, and they say nothing about the popularity or quality of the linked-to site.

I've had a few sites set up for me and was told by one of the designers that a site doesn't get much attention for the first two months. Any truth in that?

The question there is what have you done to GET them attention? :)

At starting, a forum is really too hard to pick up.. it needs lots of content, regular content, regular members, removing spam posts actively.... and you have to advertise your forum too..
