How did they manage that one ? , if you try to reg one it says:

Error for "co.co.uk". (even though it is listed on sedo)

This domain cannot be registered because it contravenes the Nominet UK
naming rules. The reason is:
third-level domains may not comprise two alphabetic characters.

hmmm - looks like they used to be able to, according to the whois Disney owns go.co.uk since 1996:xf.love:

Any guesses whats going on ?? :-/

It was possible to reg 2 character .co.uk, no more! - 3G.co.uk is a prime eample.

That said - co.co.uk - unusual!

Pre-Noms they call them. It was possible to register them before Nominet took charge over the .uk extension. Now you cannot register them, but you can renew them, much like in the .com way. Any that drop cannot be caught.

Two number or two character domains, not including two letters however ARE allowed. So 3G can be registered.

I own D1.org.uk for example.

Interesting....then I guess co.co.uk " may" be a fake one listed as it does'nt show any info on the whois (unlike go.co.uk)

Seems strange they would allow 2 numbers but not 2 letters :alien:

Thanks :)

It was supposed stop confusion over ccTLD extensions. But seeing as it isn't a .com and .co.uk isn't top-level, they MAY open it up. I've heard rumours about it. I think they may go to the highest bidder with a portion going to charity.

Funny how Nominet is a non-profit organisation but yet has £13million in the bank...

There are a few pre nominet two letter domains ie:

http://webwhois.nic.uk/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?query=go.co.uk

Co.Co.UK is not legit and probably entered on the Sedo system by error.

After speaking with Nominet at the recent domainchannel it does seem opening up the rest of the two letters is going to happen at some point by means of a charitable auction :)
